Reports To: Director of Multilingual Learners with Disabilities
LAT-F/COSE Meeting Purpose:
The purpose of the LATF/COSE meeting is to bring together educators who support multilingual learners with disabilities in order to strengthen our shared practices. To continue the progress made under the Department of Justice Successor Agreement, BPS aims to strengthen instructional practices and continuously improve the student experience for multilingual learners with disabilities. Through targeted sessions, educators will engage with best practices, tools, and collaborative opportunities designed to help better meet the needs of MLWDs and advance equity across our schools.
LAT-F/COSE Meeting Logistics:
What: A conference-style meeting in which participants will select learning opportunities based on their professional needs and interests
When: October 22, 2025 8-2:30 PM
Where: Lilla G. Frederick
How: Presenters will run each session three times to allow for smaller, more interactive groupings.
Why: This is an opportunity to showcase the work BPS educators have been engaged in, share best practices, and collaborate with colleagues around what works for our students.
MLWD Content Presenter Description:
Content Presenters will develop a one-hour session (to be delivered three times) on a topic related to multilingual learners with disabilities. The session should include time for participants to connect the learning to their professional practice and their schools’ goals for supporting MLWD. Preference will be given to educators whose proposals focus on direct instruction of MLWD and/or support professional learning on developing IEPs for MLs through a responsive teaming approach.
Sample Topics (Creativity encouraged!):
- Co-teaching in an ABA classroom
- Implementing Emerging Literacy Practices
- Best Practices in Sheltering Science Content
- Tech Tips for Differentiation
- High Leverage Writing Strategies
- Leveraging Translanguaging
Position Requirements:
- Experience teaching Multilingual Learners with Disabilities;
- Ability to connect theory to real world educational settings using best practices for adult learning;
- School-based educator;
- Preferred: Working knowledge of the state and district and other federal policies that govern both ESL and Special Education services for MLWD in K-12 public education;
- Preferred: Experience teaching in subseparate settings; and/or
- Preferred: Experience teaching in SLIFE, TBE, or dual language settings
Compensation and support:
Educators will be compensated for 3 hours at the BTU Hourly rate of $59.39 for planning outside their regular duties/contractual work hours. The sessions will be delivered during contract hours.
The Director of MLWD will be available for questions, feedback and suggestions.
