Duties
You will perform inspections and maintenance on shipboard and shore-based catapult, arresting gear and visual landing aids.,You will disassemble, repair, inspect, adjust, align, and installs water brake cylinders, covers, launch and exhaust valves, operates cylinder gap test equipment, assists in dead-load testing of catapults and retract engine as relating to catapults.,You will disassemble, repair, adjusts, aligns, install sheave nests, crossheads, accumulators CRO valves/drive sys, anchor/sheave dampers, fairlead sys, wire supt. assemblies, barricade sys, retractable sheave assemblies in aircraft arresting sys.,You will installs service changes, repairs and aligns pumps, performs hydrostatic tests on valves, hydraulic cylinders, heat exchangers and pneumatic components.,You will perform test operations on machinery and alters equipment to provide access or permit observation during tests or experiments.,You will utilize various portable machine tools and grinders; uses precision measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, dial indicators, depth gauges, height gauges, and various types of micrometers laser for catapult alignment and Theodolite.,You will perform and assists with various jobs on engines, lathes, milling machines, drill press, boring mills and other machinery associated with inside machine shop work and equipment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including: Performing inspections and maintenance on shipboard and shore-based catapult, arresting gear and visual landing aids; Inspecting, assembling, installing, repairing, and testing of equipment and component parts associated w/aircraft carrier launching and recovery systems; Planning and certifying operations performance, exercising initiative to work out unprecedented operations; Installing service changes, repairs and aligns pumps, performs hydrostatic tests on valves, hydraulic cylinders, heat exchangers and pneumatic components.; And Setting up, adjusting, and operate a variety of powered tools and equipment - using various hand tools and measuring instruments associated w/the trade operations to include have a working knowledge of welding, heat treat and plating processes. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. If selected below the target grade for this position you may be non-competitively promoted to the full performance level. This position requires rotating shift work. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires exposure to high noise levels. Several vacancies may be filled. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
