The Curriculum Area of Art or Carmarthen School of Art as it is known, forms part of the Faculty of Myrddin and has courses on both the Jobs Well and Pibwrlwyd Carmarthen campuses. Carmarthen School of Art has been providing Art education since 1854, being one of the first Art Schools set up in Britain following the Great Exhibition in Crystal Palace in London. The School has been continually evolving ever since, responding to social, creative and cultural developments and the changing needs of its students, industry and wider community. This heritage is important and influences the School ethos.

Carmarthen School of Art has a national reputation for skill based teaching & learning underpinned by academic rigour and an emphasis on employability; developing knowledgeable, highly skilled creative practitioners for the future. 
 
This post provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for a pro-active and innovative person with a broad knowledge of Art & Design. The post holder will join a team of Art & Design staff who together deliver the level 1, 2 and 3 learner programmes based on the Pibwrlwyd Campus in Carmarthen.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and support for teaching and learning within your area, responding to the needs of students, academic staff and the relevant course leader/s and Curriculum Management Team;
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment, complying with Health and Safety regulations;
  • Utilise appropriate electronic and college systems to prepare, maintain and update relevant Health & Safety documentation such as Risk Assessments, Safe Systems of Work, COSHH records and equipment maintenance records, in liaison with course teams;
  • Maintain, upgrade and service equipment as planned, required or requested within the art and design area and related workshops receiving relevant training as and when necessary;
  • Ensure the care, control, maintenance and security of course equipment, materials and stock;
  • Maintain stores inventory for consumables, equipment and delivery resources;
  • Carry out ordering of stock in line with college financial procedures and update online ordering database;
  • Provide a stores issue service for course consumables and an issue and return service for all departmental equipment and other course items; 
  • Participate in course team; student consultative committees; and curriculum area meetings as required;
  • Carry out duties which support marketing and promotion of course programmes including Social Media;
  • Support lecturers and students in undertaking workshop based activities, in line with agreed timetable

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 Qualification in industry related qualification  
  • GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent 
  • IOSH Managing Safely (If you are not IOSH qualified, you will be expected to undertake training as soon as possible)
  • Appropriate Health & Safety training, including PUWER & Working at Height (or willingness to undertake appropriate training)
  • First Aid qualification (If you are not First Aid qualified, you will be expected to undertake training as soon as possible)
    Relevant experience of the technical field/s concerned
  • A good understanding of the technical support role in Further & Higher Education                           
  • Be competent in; a range of art and design techniques and process 
  • Good communicator with diplomacy and tact 
  • Good interpersonal and organisational skills 
  • Ability to work harmoniously with students and colleagues 
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines 
  • Ability to work flexibly  
Desirable Criteria:
  • BA Hons/HNC/HND in related area 
  • A current driving licence 
  • Ability to drive college minibus

Welsh Language Requirements:
  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking) - Level 2
  • Welsh Literacy (Writing/Reading) - Level 2
