As a participant in the National Ski Area Association's Climate Challenge, Bogus Basin is committed to taking climate action and encouraging our community to do the same. Under the direction of the Sustainability & Stewardship Coordinator, the Winter Sustainability Technician will support daily sustainability tasks as well as community sustainability events and education programs.

How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Winter Sustainability Technician, you’ll be part of Bogus Basin’s efforts to reduce waste, improve recycling and composting, and educate the public on climate action. You’ll play a hands-on role in advancing the resort’s sustainability goals while supporting community events and environmental programs.
A Day in the Life
Your day might begin with sorting and transporting recycling and compost across the mountain before delivering materials to partners in the Treasure Valley. You’ll maintain waste stations and signage, contribute to data collection for greenhouse gas reporting, and help plan events like gear repair workshops. Depending on the day, you might also lead environmental education activities, survey guests about sustainability, or assist with winter stewardship projects like brush clearing along trails.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Sort and transport recyclable and compostable materials around the mountain.
- Deliver waste diversion materials to Treasure Valley partners via truck and trailer.
- Maintain waste stations and signage.
- Perform seasonal waste audit.
- Develop and/or support sustainability events such as gear repair workshops and climate action presentations.
- Provide support and data analysis for annual greenhouse gas reporting.
- Assist with coordinating and communicating with volunteers.
Non-Essential Functions of the Job
- Survey guests to gauge perception and effectiveness of sustainability programs.
- Use hand and power tools to assist in brush clearing along snowshoe trails.
- Lead occasional winter environmental education programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
What You Bring to Bogus Basin
- Academic or professional background in sustainability, environmental science, environmental education, conservation, leadership, or related field.
- Must be at least 20 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to safely operate a truck and trailer in wintry conditions.
- Passion for the Bogus Basin Mission.
- Excellent verbal and written science communication skills.
- Desire to care for open spaces and the environment.
- Ability to ski or snowboard on up to intermediate terrain.
- Comfortable communicating with the public about sustainability initiatives.
- Background check required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Biology, Botany, or related field.
- CPR/First Aid certification, Wilderness First Aid certification, or higher.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
- Hike on and off trail in snowshoes up to 4 miles.
- Operate vehicles including vans, trucks, trailers, four-wheelers, and side-by-sides.
Working Conditions and Schedule
- Majority of time outdoors in all weather conditions including snow, wind, and cold.
- Full-time seasonal schedule: 40 hours per week. Either Monday–Friday (8 hrs/day) or Monday–Thursday (10 hrs/day), with occasional required weekends.
