Position Summary

The Life Skills Counselor works in a collaborative manner to build a partnering relationship with families and others in the home and community to assure that the needs of designated children and their families are respectfully and adequately addressed; needs that include training in life skills, linkage to community resources, and advocacy for other needs. In each case the Life Skills Counselor will assure that services to children and families are individualized, strengths and needs based, culturally sensitive and responsive, and goal driven. This position requires local travel and flexibility to work a non-traditional schedule in a high-demand work situation.  This position is based in Chester County PA.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Uses assessment tools to provide comprehensive information for a treatment plan.
  2. Assesses risk factors related to the safety and well-being of all family members. 

  3. Gathers and understands current and past psychosocial factors and connections.

  4. Evaluates and provides information and support to families in times of crisis.

  5. Teaches a variety of life skills to parents at high risk for Child Abuse/ Neglect due to environment or history of family violence. 

  6. Teaches behavior management, goal setting, child development, stress and anger management, and setting limits. 

  7. Develops and maintains good working relationships with consumer child (client), family and their natural support system, internal and external stakeholders, program team members, supervisor, organizational support staff, and County Children and Youth Caseworkers and other referral sources to coordinate services. 

 

Qualifications

  • Clearances. State Police; FBI clearance; child abuse clearance; CPSL Mandated Reporter-Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training; any additional background checks/clearances required by state governing bodies.
  • Valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.
