ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

 

The Student Success & Career Coach (“Coach”) is responsible for providing students and alumni with career-based guidance and support for job exploration, professional skills development, and access to resources for continued studies, as well as assisting in the development and facilitation of career-based programming. The Coach is responsible for expanding and building relationships with outside businesses to help provide additional resources and opportunities for job growth in our communities.

Additionally, this position supports the College’s Work Study, Internships, Fellowships, Graduate Assistantships, Handshake online job board, and building employer relationships.

 

This position also interacts regularly with students, alumni, and other key stakeholders.

 

Some aspects of this position may be able to be done remotely, but the position requires regular in-person attendance and the ability to occasionally travel to other locations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Provides career development, networking strategies, interviewing, résumé and cover letter writing skills, personal branding, and job search skills to current students and alumni.
  2. Provide students with guidance and information regarding career research and decision making, goal setting, and job searching through coaching appointments and consultations, including the use of tools such as Starfish and Focus 2.
  3. Address all initial inquiries about internships and job placements from students, community organizations, faculty, parents, and alumni.

 

  1. Assist with job placement of graduating students through events, career fairs, mock interviews, and resume reviews.
  2. Implements employer engagement strategies to expand internship, external work study positions, cooperative education, and full-time employment opportunities for students and graduates.
  3. Serve as the primary contact for employers, providing guidance on recruitment strategies, college policies, and effective ways to connect with students; maintain employer database.
  4. Coordinate and oversee all aspects of fellowship programs, work-study placement, internships, and graduate assistants, including recruitment, application processing, selection, onboarding, mentorship, and ongoing support of students in these roles.
    1. Collaborate with departments to ensure alignment of opportunities with institutional goals. Maintain accurate records, track outcomes, and support students in meeting expectations and achieving academic and professional success.
  5. Track, analyze, and report employer and student engagement data and hiring outcomes; use data to guide initiatives and promote increase engagement in Student Success as it relates to Career Services.
  6. Stay current on workforce trends, hiring practices, and labor market needs to inform programming and outreach efforts.
  7. Coordinates early alert systems for the identification of student needs and builds success plans to assist students toward goals.
  8. Provide presentations to student orientation groups and at all senior seminars.
  9. Facilitates College 101 and College 201 sessions as required.
  10. Provide advising services as needed to assist with retention of current students and guide them toward career goals.
  11. Works during high-impact periods, which include, but are not limited to: annual forum, graduation, orientations, week prior to the start of the semester, first two weeks of the semester, last two weeks of the semester prior to finals, and advising periods.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

  8. Some evening and weekends are required.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College in related field.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferred experience in vocational counseling
  • Experience with Job Development/Internships preferred.
  • Experience in teaching, presenting workshops and/or providing counseling in an academic setting highly desirable.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position will require the ability to frequently reach, stand, walk, bend, twist, grasp, sit, talk, hear, see, climb and perform repetitive motions.
  • Position will require the ability to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds, and push/pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
