SUMMARY
The SEO Sr-Backdoor Service Collector is responsible for collecting residential waste from designated locations at or near residents’ homes (e.g., backdoors or side yards) and transporting materials to collection vehicles. This role requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and a commitment to providing reliable and respectful service to residents.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect residential waste such as household trash & other debris from backdoor or side-yard pickup locations in accordance with assigned routes and schedules
- Ensure all collected materials are properly placed in the vehicle according to safety and operational procedures.
- Service routes that include hard-to-access or narrow streets, ensuring consistent and safe waste collection.
- Report any issues such as missed pickups, unsafe conditions, or non-compliance to the route supervisor.
- Follow all safety protocols and use proper lifting techniques.
- Perform daily inspections of assigned equipment to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Complete assigned collection routes safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner
- Perform related manual labor tasks, including lifting and emptying waste containers, as part of the collection process.
- Provide support in other operational areas as needed to ensure overall efficiency and service continuity.
- May serve as lead worker, providing guidance and direction to a crew of two or more team members.
- Must have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to obtain & maintain City driving permit
- Experience in operation of heavy equipment
- Knowledge of:
- traffic laws
- regulations
- safety precautions
- work hazards involved in operation of equipment
- Ability to lift & carry 100 lbs.
- Read / follow street maps & driving routes
- Follow written & verbal instructions
- Ability to work 6:30am - until complete
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Previous manual labor experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequent exposure to outdoor elements such as heat, cold, rain, and odors.
- Physically demanding; involves walking, lifting, and bending for extended periods.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma/GED with five (5) years of relevant work experience; or a High School diploma/GED with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties
SALARY
$28.53 per/hour
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
