QUALIFICATIONS: Must have knowledge of proper office methods and practices, including record keeping, receptionist and telephone techniques, and letter and report writing; Kern High School District’s general operations, policies, regulations, and procedures; procedures, activities, and operations of Human Resources; policies, laws, rules, and regulations as related to assigned functions; word processing techniques and computer software applications.

Must possess the skill understand and carry out both oral and written instructions in an independent manner; understand and apply pertinent policies, laws, rules and regulations; effectively and tactfully communicate in both oral and written forms; establish and accurately maintain a variety of record keeping and filing systems and compile necessary data for report generation; operate standard office equipment/machines such as copier, computer, and assigned software; type/word process at a rate of 50 net words per minute; perform mathematical calculations; perform a variety of difficult clerical/administrative support functions with speed and accuracy; collect and analyze pertinent data and prepare reports; analyze situations and take appropriate action regarding routine procedural matters without immediate supervision; organize and prioritize work tasks and assignments effectively; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.

Must possess the ability to act as an information source to Human Resources staff and employees regarding workers’ compensation benefits, sick leave benefits and Return-to-Work policies and procedures; assist in the decision-making process for the determination of temporary work assignments based on restrictions given by workers’ compensation doctors; perform accounts payable functions including setting up vendors and processing Return-to-Work associated bills to be paid; work with SISC representatives to help determine and process workers’ compensation claims; correspond with employees and supervisors to set up modified work assignments for employees in the Return-to-Work program; perform or assist in incident investigations, prepare reports, and maintain records as needed, and promptly communicate recommendations to all concerned parties; maintain records, files, and documentation associated with employees placed in the Return-to-Work program; input appropriate Return-to-Work information into the case management system; generate weekly reports to determine site visit lists, phone call lists, and other reports as necessary; assist in setting up safety training workshops as needed; assist with reviewing SISC workers’ comp loss analysis information to help identify appropriate training/retraining, injury mitigation and prevention strategies; assist Human Resources with risk management assignments and activities as needed.

FIVE YEARS OF INCREASINGLY RESPONSIBLE CLERICAL EXPERIENCE, PREFERABLY INCLUDING THE EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION TO DEMONSTRATE THE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES LISTED ABOVE.

A RECENT FIVE MINUTE TYPING CERTIFICATE MUST ACCOMPANY APPLICATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL. Certificates must be less than two years old and cannot be completed through an online website.   Kern High School District employees who currently work in a position requiring the same or higher minimum typing speed do not need to submit a typing certificate.

A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.

DUTIES OF POSITION: To perform a wide variety of operational/administrative support functions related to the activities of the district Return-to-Work program and to act as a resource to District administrators, employees and outside sources regarding various Return-to-Work and workers’ compensation operations and procedures. Employees in this classification are expected to perform duties with minimal direct supervision. This job description classification requires strong communication skills and knowledge of a variety of computer programs including Word, Excel, Publisher, and new programs as implemented. This position also requires knowledge of and competency in school site payroll, accounts payable, workers’ compensation, and Return-to-Work programs.

STARTING SALARY:                       $4,519.87 (monthly)

NUMBER OF MONTHS:                  12 (to begin as soon as possible)

NUMBER OF HOURS:                     8 (daily working hours to be 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
