PUBLIC WORKS/UTILITY DEPARTMENT
Under general supervision, the purpose of the job is to operate, repair, and maintain vacuum sewer systems by operating equipment on a regular basis for specific vacuum sewer system infrastructure needs.
Position Duties
Operates vacuum sewer trucks, and other heavy equipment to include tanker trucks and dump trucks.
Performs general maintenance and repair of vacuum sewer system, lift stations, sewer mains, and sewer lines.
Directs and maintains record of the preventative maintenance program for vacuum sewer system machinery and equipment.
Utilizes various small tools and equipment such as air compressors, power tampers, jet machines, pneumatic tools, etc.
Ability to rebuild/troubleshoot controllers, valves, pits, and buffer tanks.
Ability to read and interpret water and sewer maps, blueprints, constriction plans, as-built drawings, and Geographic Information Systems.
Serves on call for emergencies 24 hours a day.
Ensures all work is compliant with city, state, and federal regulations.
ADDITIONAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED supplemented by 2 years of experience in the installation and maintenance of sewer systems or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
Must possess and maintain a level III or higher Florida Water and a Pollution Control Operators Association Wastewater Collection Certification.
Must possess a current and valid Florida Drivers’ License, Class A or B with Tanker Endorsement.
Employee shall obtain the National Incident Management System ICS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System and IS-700 National Incident Management System, An Introduction within six (6) months of employment. The following courses are designed to provide a baseline, as they introduce basic NIMS and ICS concepts and provide the foundation for higher-level Emergency Operations Center (EOC), MACS, and ICS-related training.
Other Qualifications
Knowledge of water, wastewater, and the reclaim water system construction, maintenance, repair practices and procedures.
Knowledge of and skill in the use of tools, equipment, and materials used in the water, wastewater, and reclaim water construction, maintenance, and repair.
Knowledge of the hazards and dangers in vacuum sewer system work and ability to adhere to safety standards and safe operating procedures.
Ability to read and work from construction plans.
Ability to relate to the public in a manner conducive to maintaining and enhancing the image and reputation of the city.
Must be able to conform with all state and government regulations pertaining to the utility system. Strong problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills is required.
Knowledge of and adherence to Environmental Health and Safety, Quality, and Regulatory guidelines.
Participation in field service calls, meet with vendors, co-workers, vacuum station operators and customers as needed.
Ability to operate vehicles and equipment in the installation, maintenance and repair functions associated with the assigned functional area.
Ability to read and interpret various documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and related documentation.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with other employees and the public.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
