Materials Manager Job Description:


BigBelly is looking for a Materials Manager who is responsible for all aspects of materials management, including inventory control, shipping, receiving, and logistics out of the Methuen/Lawrence manufacturing facility and the Lexington, Kentucky, Distribution Center. This role requires a strategic leader who can optimize material flow to support production, reduce costs, and maintain high-quality standards. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in inventory systems, logistics coordination, and team supervision, along with a continuous improvement mindset.


Materials Manager Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating suppliers based on delivery speed for their products and services, price, and quality.
  • Interviewing vendors and visiting supplier distribution centers and plants to examine and learn about prices, products, and services.
  • Attending conferences, trade shows, and meetings to network with suppliers and learn about new industry trends.
  • Analyzing financial reports, price proposals, and other information used to determine reasonable pricing.
  • Negotiating contracts for the organization and working out agreements with suppliers for product delivery.
  • Meeting with vendors and staff to discuss unacceptable and defective products and establish corrective action
  • Evaluating and monitoring contracts to ensure suppliers and vendors are complying with terms and conditions.
  • Maintaining and reviewing records of inventories, product performance, deliveries, costs, and items purchased.



Requirements

Materials Manager Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPIM, CSCP) is a plus.
  • 5-7 years of experience in materials management within a manufacturing environment
  • Proven experience in inventory control, procurement, logistics, and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) systems. (NetSuite experience highly desirable).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Forklift operation experience and certification (preferred).
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing and supply chain principles.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking ability.
  • Knowledge of supply chain principles, lean manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies.
