The Hospital/clinical pharmacist performs all duties necessary to ensure effective daily operations of inpatient, ambulatory pharmacy including oncology and collaborative practice agreements, and occasional retail pharmacy services. These services include but are not limited to processing/preparing orders for parenteral medications including hazardous preparations, enteral medications, monitoring patient drug therapies and interventions, providing drug information, reducing errors, and supervising and directing support personnel. The pharmacist’s primary responsibility is to ensure the safe and proper distribution and use of medications in patients including neonates, infants less than one year of age, children and adolescents ages 1-18, adults ages 19-65, and elderly over 65. In the absence of pharmacy management, the clinical pharmacist may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the Pharmacist in Charge or Pharmacy Manager.

  • Ability to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of all patient populations served by Good Shepherd Health Care System
  • Ability to interpret and apply standards of practice and legal regulatory compliance policies.
  • Supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations:

  • Current Oregon State Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist’s license in good standing
  • Basic Life Support certification with expectation of Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification within first year of hire.

 

Experience: Two years hospital experience or residency preferred but not required

Physical Requirements:

The physical and sensory functions described below are essential to the successful performance of this position. Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks necessary for the use of medical equipment and procedures. The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching when accessing equipment or supplies. Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently. May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Working Conditions:

This position requires shared weekends, holidays, and on-call hours. Some travel may be required for pharmacy-related events or training.

This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

 

The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations. The work setting also involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.
