About the role
As the approved provider of 100 (and growing) public preschools, the Early Learning team has a legal responsibility to provide specific, distinct and clear communications to our public preschools. The Engagement Manager is responsible for engaging directly with school leaders to support the delivery of high-quality early learning environments and guiding them through key legislative changes. The role is critical for developing and delivering complex information involving policies and early learning programs to a range of audiences. The responsibilities include:

 

  • Supporting schools to understand and meet the requirements of the National Quality Framework (NQF), particularly with significant changes to the regulation of the ECEC services, including the outcome of the Child Safety Review and the NSW ECEC Reform Bill
  • Leading engagement initiatives supporting the expansion of public early childhood education.
  • Coordinating promotional and compliance campaigns with internal experts and stakeholders.
  • Creating clear, consistent messaging to meet strategic engagement goals.
  • Raising the profile of public early learning through targeted stakeholder engagement using audience insights.
  • Supporting the Department of Education’s role as the Approved Provider of public preschools by delivering timely, accurate engagement to school leaders, helping them lead and operate high-quality early learning environments and respond effectively to key legislative changes
  • Overseeing development of digital content, including websites and SharePoint, with subject matter experts.
  • Delivering webinars and interactive engagement channels that prioritise audience input.

About you

  • Proven experience developing and implementing communication strategies that support organisational change initiatives.
  • Experience working with public preschools, with practical insight into their operations, strengths, and challenges to inform engagement and improve education and care outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector, including national laws and regulations that shape practice in public preschools, particularly the National Quality Framework (NQF) and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
  • Sound working knowledge of the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) and its role in shaping policy and practice to improve outcomes for children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with policy, program, and implementation teams to translate complex information, such as legislative changes or sensitive program content into clear, actionable, and audience-appropriate communications.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

 

 

Essential requirements of the role

  • Hold a current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) for paid employment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
