Intermediate Planner/Scheduler
What You’ll Do
The Intermediate Planner/Scheduler is responsible for supporting the successful delivery of EPCM projects by developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules across engineering, procurement, and construction phases. Working both in the field and in the office, this role ensures effective project planning, coordination, and progress tracking in alignment with project goals. The Planner/Scheduler collaborates closely with project managers, discipline leads, and subcontractors to drive schedule integrity, performance, and predictability across energy and infrastructure projects. Location is in the Calgary/Edmonton, AB.Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule Development & Management
- Develop and maintain integrated Level 1–4 project schedules for engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities.
- Ensure schedules align with project work breakdown structures (WBS) and contract requirements.
- Identify critical paths, key milestones, and interfaces between disciplines and stakeholders.
- Progress Measurement & Reporting
- Track and analyze actual progress against the baseline schedule.
- Prepare weekly and monthly schedule reports, variance analyses, and recovery plans as required.
- Support earned value management (EVM) and performance forecasting.
- Coordination & Collaboration
- Work with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to gather input and validate schedule logic and durations.
- Participate in regular project planning meetings, progress reviews, and risk workshops.
- Interface with clients, vendors, and contractors on scheduling matters.
- Risk & Change Management
- Assess schedule impacts due to design changes, delays, and other project events.
- Support the change management process by evaluating time impacts for scope changes and claims.
- Provide input to risk assessments and mitigation strategies from a scheduling perspective.
- Compliance & Best Practices
- Adhere to internal project controls standards, procedures, and corporate governance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of planning and scheduling processes and tools.
- Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 4–9 years of relevant planning and scheduling experience in EPCM projects within the energy and/or infrastructure sectors.
- Education: Diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in industry-standard planning and scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and general office applications.
- Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of project lifecycle phases (FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning).
- Familiarity with project controls principles including WBS development, cost-schedule integration, and progress measurement.
- Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or within cross-functional teams.
- Certifications (Optional): PMP, PSP, or other project management/scheduling certifications considered an asset.
