ABOUT THE COURT
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is the largest unified trial court in the United States. The Court’s 582 judicial officers and its dedicated workforce of over 4,600 full-time employees serving across 36 facilities work purposefully and seamlessly to achieve the mission to provide equal access to justice to all of Los Angeles County. With an annual budget exceeding $1 billion, the Los Angeles Superior Court operation scales one of the nation’s largest counties, covering over 4,084 square miles and serving over 10 million residents.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Discover what it’s like to work inside one of the nation’s largest trial courts through the Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s Student Worker Program. This six-month paid program places college students in hands-on assignments where they gain experience supporting daily court operations, whether in a courthouse or one of the many administrative areas that keep the Court running smoothly. Alongside their work, participants will take part in courthouse tours, observe courtroom proceedings, and attend professional development as well as informational sessions where they’ll hear from court staff across a variety of departments, offering a broad view of how the Court operates.

Based on their location and interests, student workers will be placed in one of our 36 courthouses or one of our many administrative areas. Examples of placements may include:

  • Courthouse clerk’s offices
  • Exhibits and Archives
  • Facilities Management
  • Jury Services Support
  • Human Resources
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Research and Data Management
  • Information Technology
  • Communications
  • Community Outreach
  • Contracts and Materials Management

In their respective assignments, student workers will provide hands-on clerical and administrative support to court staff and management. Through tasks like organizing documents, assisting with office projects, and supporting team workflows, participants gain practical experience and a real sense of how a busy court functions behind the scenes.

Employment in this classification is considered part-time and temporary. It is limited to a "not to exceed period" of 180 days of employment in accordance with the provisions of the Court's Student Worker and Student Professional Worker Employment Guidelines. Student Workers and Student Professional Workers may work up to 24 hours per week. For a detailed Student Professional Worker job description, please click here.
