We're thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to join our Viasat Government People & Culture (P&C) team as a Director, Internal Communications & Employer Reputation. This hybrid role offers the best of both worlds: meaningful collaboration in our Carlsbad office and the flexibility of remote work.
The Director, Internal Communications & Employer Reputation is a strategic communications architect responsible for shaping Viasat Government’s (VGOV’s) internal narrative, employee engagement, and employer brand. Reporting directly to the Head of People & Culture for VOGV, this role partners closely with the President of VGOV and the executive leadership team to craft and communicate the company’s strategy, business priorities, and progress toward delivering on those goals.
Operating at the intersection of business transformation, leadership messaging, and employee experience, the Director ensures timely, transparent, and compelling communication across all levels of the organization. This includes People and Culture (P&C) initiatives, enterprise strategy, organizational change, and cultural evolution. The role also oversees VGOV employer reputation insights, ensuring VGOV’s culture, values, mission, and employee value proposition (EVP) are consistently reflected across internal and external channels.
The day-to-day:
Executive Communications & Leadership Messaging
• Partner with VGOV CEO and executive team to shape leadership messaging and cascade strategic priorities across the organization.
• Develop executive talking points, speeches, and communications for key moments (e.g., town halls, strategy rollouts, leadership transitions)
• Coach leaders on effective storytelling and employee engagement techniques
Strategic Communications & Business Alignment
• Develop and execute a comprehensive internal communications and employer brand strategy aligned to VGOV’s business goals and P&C functional plan
• Translate complex ideas into clear, actionable messaging for employees and leaders
• Serve as a strategic advisor to the Chief People Officer and senior leaders on communications
Internal Communications Execution
• Own the development of VGOV’s internal narrative, connecting business strategy, employee experience, and cultural evolution
• Lead the planning and delivery of communications across channels (email, intranet, town halls, digital signage, etc.)
• Ensure consistency and resonance of messaging across all levels and functions
• Drive crisis communications response and participate as a key member on steering committees
• Partner with COEs to support adoption of new programs (e.g., goal setting, performance, onboarding, career frameworks, etc.)
Culture & Engagement Strategy
• Collaborate with P&C and business leaders to define and communicate VGOV’s cultural aspirations and progress
• Lead communications for enterprise wide engagement initiatives, pulse surveys, and feedback loops Organizational Change & Transformation
• Spearhead communications for major organizational changes, leadership transitions, and structural shifts
• Create toolkits and templates for managers to cascade change messaging with clarity and empathy
• Support change management efforts by aligning communications with business readiness and employee sentiment
Employer Brand & Reputation
• Define and amplify VGOV’s unique flavor of the employee value proposition (EVP) through storytelling and thought leadership
• Collaborate with Talent Acquisition and Marketing to ensure consistent brand messaging across internal and external platforms
• Monitor employer reputation through market data, candidate feedback, and competitive analysis
Measurement & Insights
• Establish metrics to assess communication effectiveness, employee engagement, and brand perception
• Use data-driven insights to continuously improve messaging strategy and delivery
• Provide regular reporting to VGOV P&C leadership and executive stakeholders
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
• Build strong relationships across P&C, business units, and external communications teams
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, and P&C Operations to ensure messaging is accurate, timely, and aligned with regulatory standards
• Participate in the P&C leadership team, contributing to strategy and cross-functional alignment
What you'll need:
• 10+ years in internal communications, executive communications, employer brand, or change management roles
• Proven experience partnering directly with C-suite executives to shape and deliver strategic messaging across diverse audiences
• Demonstrated success in leading communications during organizational transformation, business pivots, or cultural change
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business, or related field
• Exceptional writing, editing, and messaging skills across formats and audiences
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or highly regulated industries preferred
• Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, and executive presence
• Ability to translate complex business strategy into clear, compelling narratives that drive employee understanding and alignment
- Master's degree preferred
Salary range:$145,000.00 - $229,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $180,500.00- $270,500.00/ annually :At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Additional cash or stock incentives may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
