Job Summary
Kirst Process Equipment is seeking a driven and technically savvy Outside Sales Representative to support our Central Montana territory. In this high-impact role, you will manage a designated customer base, drive new account growth, and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction across diverse industries such as oil & gas, mining, utilities, sugar mills, EPCs, and water treatment.
This role requires frequent travel throughout Montana, and offers the opportunity to represent a global leader in industrial flow control equipment in one of the most dynamic and rewarding markets in the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
- Territory & Customer Management:
Define and manage sales objectives, develop forecasts, and grow market share within the assigned territory. - Client Engagement & Travel:
Conduct regular onsite visits throughout central Montana to develop relationships, identify opportunities, and provide hands-on sales support. - Technical Sales & Product Support:
Collaborate with customer engineering teams to specify and apply Kirst products (valves, pumps, instrumentation, actuators, controls) while providing product education and technical guidance. - Customer Relationship Development:
Nurture and expand long-term relationships with existing customers and channel partners while identifying and converting new prospects. - Issue Resolution:
Serve as the customer liaison for resolving concerns or product/service issues, working closely with internal teams to ensure timely resolution. - Sales Reporting & Market Insights:
Track and report on sales performance, pipeline progress, customer trends, and competitor activity.
Qualifications & Core Competencies
- Experience:
2–5 years of experience in an industrial sales or technical role (valves, instrumentation, pumps, flow control, etc.) preferred. - Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred. Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education. - Communication:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to convey technical information clearly and professionally. - Customer Focus:
Proven ability to build trust, manage expectations, and provide excellent service to a wide range of industrial customers. - Independence & Drive:
Self-motivated and proactive with strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to set goals and deliver results independently. - Technical Aptitude:
Comfortable discussing and applying technical product solutions in industrial environments. - Problem Solver:
Skilled at identifying challenges and developing customer-centered solutions. - Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of the fluid handling equipment market (e.g., valves, controls, piping).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; or a high school diploma with relevant experience.
- Travel: Ability to travel locally, including areas in central Montana. Office location is in Billings, Montana. Minimal overnight travel is expected, mainly for training and customer testing.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required; personal vehicle available for sales and service calls.
- Background Check: Credit check required as part of the background screening process.
- Compliance: Must adhere to Bray’s Drivers Policy, including maintaining adequate auto liability insurance and following company safety practices.
Working Conditions
- Field-based role with frequent travel across the Montana region.
- Must be comfortable working independently and managing your own travel schedule and client interactions.
