Reporting to: Owner/Principal

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controller to lead our Accounting Department and oversee the dealership’s financial operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance, and supporting business decisions through insightful analysis. The Controller will manage all accounting functions, leverage our dealership management system, and work closely with leadership to drive financial health and operational efficiency.

What You’ll Do

As Controller, you’ll have ownership of our accounting operations and play a pivotal role in shaping financial strategy. Your responsibilities will include:

Accounting Leadership

  • Manage the full accounting cycle: general ledger, payables, receivables, payroll, and monthly/annual closing.

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including submissions to Harley-Davidson Motor Company.

  • Supervise and support accounting staff, and provide training on end-of-day processes and onboarding.

  • Participate in annual audits and ensure audit-ready accuracy year-round.

Financial Operations

  • Reconcile accounts, prepare bank deposits, and oversee cash management.

  • Sales tax reconciliation and payments. 

  • Monitor vendor accounts, optimize cash flow, and ensure timely payments.

  • Review and process vendor invoices, contracts, and warranty AP/AR.

  • Maintain compliance with DMV and all tax authority requirements, including filing reports and remitting payments on time.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare and review trial balances, financial statements, and supporting schedules.

  • Investigate discrepancies, resolve accounting issues, and provide management with actionable insights.

  • Submit financial and statistical data to the Harley-Davidson Dealer Dashboard™.

  • Deliver special analyses and reporting to support strategic decisions.

Team & Culture

  • Lead by example with integrity, fairness, and respect.

  • Foster collaboration across teams and model outstanding customer service behaviors.

  • Oversee office assistants and marketing/events staff.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or in a similar accounting leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.

  • Proficiency with MS Office (especially Excel) and experience with dealership or ERP systems.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.

  • High attention to detail and problem-solving ability.

Monday through Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm, some weekends
