The Paralegal will report directly to the Senior Legal Counsel and will also provide direct support to the rest of the team, on a broad spectrum of legal and commercial issues. The role will provide a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience across all areas of the River Island business, taking in a variety of work including contentious and non-contentious intellectual property, brand protection, retail, eCommerce, commercial, marketing, real estate and data protection.

Over time we expect the Paralegal to take on the following responsibilities:
IP
  • Assist with the management of River Island’s global trade mark portfolio
  • Take responsibility for management of online brand protection
  • Be actively involved in product reviews and responsible for liaising with product teams to co-ordinate ongoing reviews
  • Collate and organise information for infringement cases and assist generally with case management
Commercial
  • Review and draft a range of commercial agreements across a range of business functions
  • Draft and manage side letters and termination letters
  • Carry out general research and draft guidance notes
Real Estate
  • Land registry applications
  • SDLT Forms and related payments
  • Obtaining consent for alterations and works to premises
Marketing
  • Review and advise on marketing materials including competition T&Cs, promotions and Influencer Agreements
Data Protection
  • Assist with data protection and other compliance matters  
  • Keep abreast of privacy and consumer law developments across the jurisdictions where our business operates
 
Suitable candidates should demonstrate the following:
  • Legal academic qualifications (LLB or GDL) with LPC as a preference
  • Some paralegal (or other legal) experience is essential, retail/fashion experience would be advantageous
  • Be passionate about brands and wanting to work for River Island
  • Ability to interpret the law and apply it in the context of the commercial objectives of the business
  • Hard-working, well organised and able to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure
  • Be pro-active and show initiative at all times
  • Excellent communication skills, both in writing and in person
  • Common sense approach to work
