At Alpiq, we are expanding our third party portfolio developing systematic strategies in spot and intraday markets and ensuring at the same time the security of energy supply to our customer base.

In this role we are looking for an experienced Senior Short-Term Trader to strengthen our trading team with a focus on the Italian power market.  You will actively trade day-ahead, intraday, and balancing markets, optimize our short-term portfolio, and capture opportunities in a fast-moving environment. The ideal candidate combines deep knowledge of the Italian electricity market with strong analytical skills, risk awareness, and a proven track record of delivering trading results.

Your accountabilities 

  • Trading on short term Italian power market (DA, ID auctions, ID continuous, imbalance market) optimizing our Italian third-party as well as own RES assets and sales portfolio in order to extract value for Alpiq.
  • Monitor and analyze market fundamentals and price signals. Develop and refine short term trading strategies to improve profitability.
  • Manage risk exposure relevant to assets and ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (algo traders, pricing analysts, meteorologists) and coordinate with peer originators of the value chain.
  • Assist in further improvement and automation of existing tools and trading processes.

 

Your profile

  • Master’s degree in the field of Engineering/ Economics / Business administration / Mathematics or similar
  • 5+ years of proven trading experience in the Italian or Southern European power markets, with a focus on short-term trading
  • Strong knowledge of the Italian electricity market design, regulations, and trading platforms (GME, EPEX, BSP, etc.).
  • Proficiency with trading tools, market data platforms, and Excel and Python or other analytical tools for fast decision-making.
  • IT affinity and programming skills (VBA, Python) required (SQL good to have)
  • Strong risk management discipline and ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration across teams and counterparties.
  • Fluent English (written and spoken) required, Italian a must, knowledge of additional languages is considered a plus
  • Proactivity in problem solving and results orientation
