We are hiring a Director, Merchandise Planning to lead our Merchandise Planning team. This position reports to the VP Merchandising, Planning and Allocation and takes Away further by owning the sales forecasting and inventory strategy for the total Away business. This role will own all three channels - retail, wholesale and ecommerce - and ensure alignment among channel owners and partners.
In addition to the below responsibilities, this position will oversee the E-Commerce and Wholesale Planning team.
What you’ll do as the Director, Merchandise Planning
You’ll build processes and ways of working for a multi-channel merchandising planning team, including DTC and wholesale
You’ll lead forecasting and inventory strategy for total Away business, rolling up and reporting out for all three channels of business
You’ll partner with Merchandising, Wholesale, and Allocation teams to drive in-season and pre-season business
You’ll drive the forecasting process with the finance team, ensuring cross-functional alignment around category growth and inventory efficiency expectations
You’ll own the day-to-day management and forecasting of the retail business
You’ll serve as the Merchandise planning point of contact for cross-functional teams
You’ll contribute to the product development calendar by surfacing demand insights and white space opportunities
You’ll ensure planning decisions are aligned with broader company goals, including financial pacing, margin targets, and supply chain constraints
Who you are
You have a minimum of 7 years of experience in planning and inventory management; experience in a consumer goods, fashion, or retail environment required
You're a dynamic team leader who wants to set the vision for a best-in-class, scaling merchandising planning function
You’re a builder by nature who seeks to improve processes and discover new ways of working as business grows and evolves
You’re a strong analytical thinker who can turn numbers into narratives and use data to influence decisions
You’re deeply comfortable in Excel/Google Sheets, and know how to build tools, models, and forecasts that scale
You thrive in ambiguity and love building structure — whether it’s a better forecast model or a faster feedback loop
You know how to balance risk, cash, and customer demand — and can zoom in and out between tactical and strategic work
You’re creative and innovative; you love to build great new things that are fresh and unique while staying on brand
You’re agile, and motivated by a fast-paced and ever changing environment

What We Offer
Our total rewards are inclusive of both compensation and benefits. What we offer within a salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Away employees. Salary and benefit offerings are reviewed during phone screenings to ensure alignment.
Compensation: $155,000.00- $160 annually / hourly
This role is eligible to participate in Away’s Annual Company Performance Incentive Bonus Plan, the terms of which are determined at the discretion of the company
Equity Grant: commensurate with level determined at the discretion of the company

How We Work
This is an office-based position that works from our Soho, NYC office four days a week. Our working hours are 9am-6pm et, but we embrace a common-sense approach to flexibility in the workplace. It’s about being present, engaged, and balancing work with real-life needs.
