Overview of the Position
The Hartford is looking for an AVP of Product Management to lead the Personal Insurance Pricing Team. This impactful role will oversee the Pricing Analytics and Pricing Delivery organizations, managing a direct team of five leaders with approximately 40 total staff. In this position, you will be accountable for managing the pricing accuracy and adequacy of The Hartford’s Personal Auto, Home and Umbrella products across all states, comprising $3.8B in written premium.
In addition to managing state pricing, this position will act as the Business Owner for key investments into new tools and advanced AI capabilities that improve pricing accuracy and drive efficiency in the rate implementation process. Strong partnerships with supporting areas such as IT, Data and Analytics, State Product, Auto/Home Line teams and Actuarial will be key to driving results. Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills, strong technical acumen and actuarial knowledge, and a track record of delivering innovations that disrupt the status quo.
Responsibilities:
- Drive continuous action for profit improvement, policy growth and retention. Establish an annual rate plan, provide pricing expertise to support financial planning, and deliver on rate plan execution.
- Act as Business Owner for next-gen technology builds, including large investments in Generative and Agentic AI capabilities. Challenge established practices and reimagine workflows to drive down manual effort and automate tasks, freeing up team capacity for more in-depth pricing analysis. Regularly communicate project milestones and KPIs to senior leaders.
- Support the analysis, design and implementation of class plan enhancements or new products across multiple distribution channels, providing pricing expertise and through leadership to our Data Science, Actuarial, and Product Development teams.
- Lead a large team of exceptional employees, cultivating a positive culture and with a focus on attracting and retaining key talent. Invest in staff career development through coaching, feedback, stretch assignments and formal training. Advocate for Pricing in cross-functional forums and educate others on the work and value the team delivers.
- Build strong partnerships and collaborate with State Product Managers, Actuarial, Data Science and other key areas. Provide clear, frequent and compelling communication as project delivery and pricing activities progress over time. Deliver all work on or ahead of schedule with high standards of quality and actuarial practice.
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 8 years of P&C insurance experience. 5+ years of pricing, product management or actuarial experience preferred.
- Experience leading and developing a high performing team. Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly and simply to a variety of audiences.
- Strong time management, prioritization and project management skills.
- Proven track record of challenging existing processes and influencing others in the spirit of continuous improvement.
- Experience in using generative AI tools to drive efficiency.
- FCAS/ACAS designation preferred.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
