Hotel Night Auditor

Salary Range: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour (experience-based compensation)

Position Summary 

The Night Auditor plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the hotel during the overnight hours. This position is responsible for auditing, balancing, and consolidating departmental ledger accounts to maintain accurate financial records. Additionally, the Night Auditor prepares various hotel operating reports that provide valuable insights into the hotel's performance. Beyond financial duties, this role involves handling the requests and transactions of hotel guests, ensuring their needs are met promptly and efficiently. The Night Auditor is essential in maintaining the hotel's high standards of service and operational excellence throughout the night.

Essential Functions

  • Post all daily room and outstanding charges.
  • Balance all revenue totals of cash and credits against the revenue report.
  • Verify and prepare registration cards for arriving guests.
  • Handle hotel phone system, transfer calls, and take messages for guests as well as hotel staff.
  • Take, modify, and cancel guest reservations.
  • Check in/out guests according to hotel and/or brand standards.
  • Deal with inquiries, requests, and complaints from guests. Coordinate with other departments to fulfill guests' special requests.
  • Notify housekeeping and maintenance of any reported problems with guestrooms and hotel grounds.
  • Handle all guest questions and inquiries about the hotel and local surroundings.
  • Create and/or print the required reports.
  • Verify each front desk shift’s transactions.
  • Finalize transactions completed during the day, including completing a daily income report and a daily F&B Revenue Report.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the Front Office area.
  • Perform cashier duties, cash travelers’ checks. Post phone charges and other miscellaneous charges to guest accounts.
  • Follow in-house procedures to help ensure the security of guests and employees. Know hotel emergency procedures.

Additional Responsibilities

  • The hotel operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Department schedules must accommodate fluctuating business demands, and employees may be asked to work shifts other than those they prefer or normally work.
  • Employees are required to adhere to all work rules, procedures, and policies established by the hotel, including, but not limited to, those contained in the employee handbook.

Education and Experience

  • Previous hotel front desk agent experience required
  • Accounting/Money Handling experience preferred

    Understands how to balance transactions, post charges, and reconcile accounts.

    Carefully reviews financial records and guest folios to catch errors.

    Comfortable using hotel systems (like PMS), spreadsheets, and basic reporting tools.

    Handles guest inquiries and billing issues professionally and courteously.

    Manages tasks efficiently during overnight shifts with minimal supervision.

  • Problem-Solving
    Able to troubleshoot discrepancies and resolve issues calmly.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain control and composure in difficult situations and exhibit good judgment.

    Performs duties with little to no supervision during night hours.

  • Handle Money Accurately
    Counts cash, processes payments, and prepares deposits correctly.

  • Generate Reports
    Compiles end-of-day financial summaries for management.

  • Communicate Clearly
    Writes notes, emails, and reports that are easy to understand.

  • Maintain Confidentiality
    Handles guest and financial information with discretion and integrity.
