POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sports Youth Leader II supports the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a competitive, educational, and charter-driven athletic program. The Sports Youth Leader II is responsible for specific duties related to gym setup and breakdown for games such as basketball and volleyball games, maintaining equipment, and supporting student-athletes before, during, and after the season.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with basketball/volleyball game-day setup: Break down Multi-Use (MU) room (tables, chairs, bleachers)

    • Lower basketball hoops and ensure equipment is safe and ready for use.
    • Set up scores table, scoreboard, microphone, and sound system.
    • Coordinate with custodial staff to ensure gym floors are swept and mopped.
    • Extend bleachers in designated areas for fans and spectators.
    • Place safety pads over lunch line bars.
  • Operate scoreboard and game clock during athletic events.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety of student-athletes before, during, and after games.
  • Post-game: Facilitate full breakdown and restore MU room to original layout.
  • Assist with equipment and uniform inventory management during the off-season.
  • Collaborate to provide peer feedback and improve practice.
  • Help implement recreational activities during rec block times.
  • Provide coaching support in other sports as assigned.
  • Maintain professional communication with staff, families, and community partners.
  • Ensure adherence to policies.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma/GED
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
  • At least one year of experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

  • Provide positive relations with those associated with the YMCA, coaches, children, and parents.
  • A positive image of the YMCA of East Valley (San Bernardino YMCA) in the community
  • Sound management skills of the various components of the position
  • Must complete the following certification once hired within two weeks: NFHS , First Aid/ CPR for Adults and Children, and TB Clearance

 

HOURS OF OPERATION:

Exact times will depend on school placement and program needs.

Monday – Friday: 1:00 PM or 7:30 PM
