POSITION:    (FT) – Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Law

Effective immediately: Multiple open-rank Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Law, - Wilmington University School of Law.

Summary: The Wilmington University School of Law seeks to fill up to four (4) tenured or tenure-track positions to teach primarily first and second year required bar tested subjects and to start in the AY 2026-2027 academic year. The School of Law welcomes applications from lawyers, judges, and faculty who are interested in serving as an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Law. This position is a full-time, tenure-track or tenured faculty position. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service, and to assist in further development of the School of Law. Immediate needs are identified in the following subjects: Civil Procedure; Contracts; Constitutional Law; Legal Writing; Professional Responsibility; Property; Sales and Leases; Torts; and Wills, Trusts and Estates. Candidates with expertise or interest in teaching multiple subjects are desired.

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

  • Sufficient and high-quality practice experience to be a foundation for teaching in the School of Law’s educational program.
  • Commitment to the goals of the School of Law and its curricular and instructional methods and goals.

  • Understand the mission and values of Wilmington University.

  • Possess strong communications skills.

  • Possess excellent computer skills and the ability to use MS Office Software.

  • Possess knowledge of various instruction strategies designed to meet the instructional objectives and add to student learning.

  • Successful candidates must complete the online Wilmington University Teaching and Learning Training (Expectations and LMS) via the New Faculty Orientation-Part 1 and 2 after being hired.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):  

  • Teaching up to five courses per academic year.
  • Demonstrating the ability to achieve excellence in teaching and mentoring students in their professional development.

  • Following the instructional and curricular practices of the School of Law, including use of the Canvas Learning Management System, tracking student learning outcomes, utilizing multiple assessments and research and writing modules within a course, as appropriate, with support from other faculty as well as research librarians.

  • Fostering an inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

  • Performing other duties which may be assigned by the Dean of the School of Law.

     

Hours of Employment:  Classes are scheduled Monday – Thursday between the hours of 9:00 am – 9:35 p.m. All faculty should anticipate teaching both in the day and evening programs, as needed for course load. Must maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the university and School of Law.  Occasional weekends as needed for special events.  Required to attend all Graduation ceremonies, new student orientation, faculty and sub-committee meetings and Professional Development Day events.

  6. Completed writing prompt (Teaching Philosophy): Provide a description of your teaching philosophy. Your description should be no more than 1.5 pages in length and should include the following information: (1) A brief statement (5-7 sentences) explaining how you plan to provide excellence in teaching, a relevant curriculum, and individual attention to students, which is the cornerstone of Wilmington University’s mission statement. (2) Based on your statement above, please briefly answer the following questions: (a) Explain your beliefs, theories and/or methods regarding teaching and how they shape your concept of successful teaching. (b) How do you know when you are teaching effectively? (c) How do you develop and maintain positive relationships with students? (d) How do you create a supportive learning environment? (3) Include a summary of your thoughts on education and the role that you feel you could play in helping students to be successful in their discipline, career, and life.
