Caring for our city, creating a future for all

Our people are passionate about their communities and connected to their teams. They’re motivated by our genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, and our clear, compelling plan for our global city: Sustainable Sydney 2030 – 2050 Continuing the Vision

Be part of a purpose-led organisation with care at its core. You’ll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.

About the role

The City of Sydney is on the lookout for a Finance Business Partner who’s not just great with numbers—but thrives on turning data into decisions that make a real difference.

Join our high-performing Financial Planning and Reporting team, where your expertise will help drive bold initiatives and deliver services that truly benefit our community. You’ll work side-by-side with senior leaders and cross-functional teams, influencing strategy and helping shape a more sustainable, liveable city.

In this pivotal role, you’ll lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting with precision and purpose. You’ll deliver high-impact financial modelling to support business cases and strategic projects, and partner with operational teams to translate complex financials into clear, actionable insights. You’ll be a trusted advisor, empowering stakeholders to make informed decisions that matter.

If you're passionate about public value, thrive in a collaborative environment, and want to see your work make a visible impact—this is your chance.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • CPA, CA or equivalent tertiary qualifications
  • extensive experience in business partnering across multiple stakeholders and departments
  • advanced financial modelling skills, including scenario analysis and cost-benefit evaluation
  • strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly and persuasively.

This is more than a finance role—it’s an opportunity to shape the future of our city through smart, data-driven decisions.
