About the Department
Position Duties
- Tutor students in small study groups, assisting them in all subject areas based on the class and text notes they have collected in their AVID binders.
- Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and text notes, book notes, etc.
- Become familiar with the materials in the AVID libraries.
- Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by AVID students.
- Facilitate the process of writing in all subject areas, study skills, and other aspects of college preparation.
- Conduct brainstorming and clustering sessions.
- Contact teachers regarding course outlines and assignment schedules as directed by the AVID coordinator/teacher.
- Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.
- Attend tutoring training.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of two years of higher education study (48+ units), OR
- Possession of an Associate's or higher level degree, OR
- Successful completion of our academic proficiency assessment that demonstrates knowledge of, and the ability to, assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics or mathematics readiness.
If you are attempting to satisfy the academic proficiency requirement, official college transcripts must be attached to the application to validate the degree awarded or completion of 48+ college units. If official transcripts are not attached to the application, you will be required to take and pass the academic proficiency assessment. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing |

Examination
The examination component may consist of a qualifying written multiple-choice exam. Qualified applicants are notified via email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location for the exam. A valid picture identification is required prior to admittance.
After the exam procedure concludes for this recruitment, an eligibility list will be established to fill available vacancies.

Work Schedule
This is a casual part-time position. Hours and work days are established at the school administrator's discretion, and will not exceed 3.5 hours/day.
