STUDENT ASSISTANT EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION  

 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Student Meeting Room Crew position is an entry level position performing a wide variety of setups, cleaning and maintenance services for the University Student Union’s (USU) meeting and conference facilities. Successful candidates will be those able to be an engaged member of our team, add value to the organization, and take advantage of opportunities to advance and take on more responsibilities as they grow within the organization. Continuous on-the-job training is provided following hire.

 

JOB DUTIES:

·         Support the University Student Union by providing room set-ups, including moving equipment and assisting customers with last-minutes room set-up changes

·         Detail meeting rooms, clean tables and equipment and pick up miscellaneous trash. Utilize online programs to support event set ups

·         Seek out ways to support other employees throughout the University Student Union

·         Must attend and be engaged in all required USU employee orientation and trainings as well as department specific trainings and meetings dressed in work appropriate attire

·         Performs other related duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student

EXPEPERIENCE

Previous related experience and/or specialized education is not required

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work early mornings, weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods

·         Planning and Organizing: Organizes and prioritizes tasks to be performed and completed by a deadline in order to achieve the most efficient use of time.

 

SUPERVISION

Supervision is provided by the Operations Supervisor

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is primarily performed in a temperature-controlled office environment, as well as outdoors in varying weather conditions. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule Monday-Friday, must possess an ability and willingness to work some weekends, academic interim, and break periods as needed; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.

 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of Student Meeting Room Crew. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to climb or balance and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally sit for extended periods and regularly walk around building; talk and hear; be able to detect smoke, heat and subtle smells. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds (if applicable). Specific vision abilities required but this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

INTRA-POSITION ADVANCEMENT:

Tier 1 – Student Meeting Room Crew ($17.87/hour)

All applicants will be hired at this Tier and will have six (6) months from the start of their training to advance to Tier 2 or they will no longer be eligible for employment.

To advance from Tier 1 to Tier 2, employees will successfully complete a list of Learning Outcomes developed by their supervisor including, but not limited to:

·         Completing all trainings

·         Amount of hours worked and consistent punctuality

·         Ability to use online systems utilized by the USU Reservations and Event Services Department

·         Ability to use and lead the setup of different event equipment

·         Shadow other positions within the USU Reservations and Event Services Department and gain an understanding of their job duties

·         Have demonstrated leadership abilities

 

Tier 2 – Student Meeting Room Crew Shift Lead ($18.12/hour)

In addition to Tier 1 job responsibilities, Student Meeting Room Crew Members in Tier 2 will read daily work orders, develop a plan to complete all necessary tasks, communicate setup plans to others, collaborate with other teams, write daily shift reports, and meet regularly with their supervisor. After advancing to Tier 2, successful candidates will have 12 months to advance to Tier 3 or they will no longer be eligible for employment.

To advance from Tier 2 to Tier 3, employees will successfully complete a list of Learning Outcomes developed by their supervisor including, but not limited to:

·         Amount of hours worked and consistent punctuality

·         Work as a Shift Lead during the set up or tear down of a complex event

·         Be able to set up and operate AV equipment regularly used by the USU Reservations and Event Services Department

·         Be able to locate detailed information in the event management software utilized by the USU Reservations and Event Services Department, EMS

·         Shadow other positions within the USU Reservations and Event Services Department and gain an understanding of their job duties

 

Tier 3 – Student Meeting Room Crew Project Lead ($18.37/hour)

Tier 3 is the highest Tier within the Student Meeting Room Crew Member position and by the time an employee successfully reaches it they are ready to serve as a leader in the USU Reservations and Event Services Department.

In addition to Tier 1 and Tier 2 job responsibilities, Student Meeting Room Crew Members in Tier 3 will assist with staff trainings, provide leadership for assigned special projects, identify ways to advance the USU Reservations and Event Services Department, and serve as a mentor to their coworkers in Tier1 and Tier 2.
