About the Team
The Strategic Finance team partners across Workday to deliver insights, drive execution of critical initiatives, and enable long-term value creation. We combine rigorous financial analysis with program management, cross-functional coordination, and executive storytelling to help senior leaders make informed decisions and move the business forward.As a Principal, Strategic Finance & Operations, you will lead and manage complex, high-visibility initiatives at the intersection of finance, strategy, and operations. You’ll serve as a trusted partner to VPs and the SVP of Business Finance, driving clarity and alignment on long-range planning, executive and Board reporting, and cross-functional strategic projects. This role requires exceptional judgment, the ability to structure and execute against ambiguity, and strong influence skills to bring diverse stakeholders together around shared goals.
This position reports to the VP of Strategic Finance and will support both Strategic Finance and the broader Business Finance organization on a project basis.
About the Role
As a Principal, Strategic Finance & Operations, you will lead and manage complex, high-visibility initiatives at the intersection of finance, strategy, and operations. You’ll serve as a trusted partner to VPs and the SVP of Business Finance, driving clarity and alignment on long-range planning, executive and Board reporting, and cross-functional strategic projects. This position reports to the VP of Strategic Finance and will support both Strategic Finance and the broader Business Finance organization on a project basis.
Responsibilities:
Manage & orchestrate strategic initiatives such as long-range planning, quarterly Executive/Board reporting, and special projects including process design, system implementations, or new ways of working.
Translate complex data into compelling executive narratives that drive alignment and decision-making at the VP, SVP, and C-Suite level.
Coordinate across multiple functions (Finance, Strategy, Sales, Product, and Operations) to ensure accuracy, alignment, and timely execution of deliverables.
Drive accountability by setting clear structures, milestones, and ownership for projects, ensuring progress against deadlines in fast-paced environments.
Develop scalable processes and tools that increase efficiency, transparency, and the ability of Finance to deliver insights at scale.
Provide thought partnership to senior leaders, anticipating needs, identifying risks, and recommending solutions that balance strategic intent with operational practicality.
Act as an integrator and connector, ensuring that information, priorities, and decisions flow effectively across Finance leadership and other stakeholders.
About You
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in management consulting, strategic finance, corporate strategy, or business operations.
Bachelor's degree required.
Proven success leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects under tight deadlines.
Ability to synthesize complex information into simple/digestible takeaways to drive decision making.
Strong program management capabilities: ability to design structure, track progress, and hold teams accountable across competing priorities.
High degree of business judgment, integrity, and discretion when working with sensitive information and senior stakeholders.
Other Qualifications:
MBA strongly preferred.
Prior experience in enterprise software, SaaS, or technology industry.
Strong influencing and relationship-building skills; ability to align stakeholders at all levels.
Comfort navigating ambiguity, identifying what matters most, and driving clarity and execution.
A collaborative, resourceful, and proactive mindset — able to both lead and roll up sleeves as needed.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
