Purpose of the job

Lead Windsor Locks site Health, Safety, Environmental, and Compliance initiatives to continuously improve performance and ensure compliance with all associated regulations.

 

Main responsibility areas

Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Manages assigned staff.  Provides coaching, support and regular feedback to staff.  Prepares and conducts performance reviews.
  • Takes an active role in providing performance feedback and developing careers of direct reports
  • Lead Environmental and Compliance activities including:

                              - Environmental Permitting (Water, Air, and Waste)

                              - Environmental Testing Laboratory

- Microbiology

- FDA Compliance

- Remediation activities

- Environmental functions

- Liaison to the State of CT DEP

- Active with CBIA EPC

  • Compliance with the Consent Decree, NPDES Permit, and other regulations.
  • Responsible for compliance with government regulations.
  • Responsible for signing and confirming all documents to the State of CT DEP are accurate
  • Responsible for ensuring the Environmental Manual is followed to comply with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System for all appropriate areas of responsibility
  • Support ‘a Plus’ efforts
  • Provide compliance certifications around national (CSPA, California Proposition 65), international (REACh, EINECS, RoHS), or other customer-specific (free of: bse, phthalate, natural-latex) program requirements
  • Work closely with Corporate Environmental network to support Ahlstrom initiatives

Work experience

 

  • Experience working with environmental regulatory agencies
  • Detailed understanding of Compliance and Environmental Regulations

Formal education

  Bachelor’s degree required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Master’s degree, pulp/paper science, engineering, finance or business, preferred

  • Ability to work for extended times in a pulp mill or paper mill environment, safely walk through our manufacturing plants and rough outdoor terrain, and wearing required personal protection gear (i.e. hand, hearing, breathing, head and foot protection).
