POSITION TITLE: Instructional Support Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Federal Programs
WORK DAYS: Part-Time Position (Up to 49%)
REPORTS TO: Principal and Administration
JOB SUMMARY: The Instructional Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the integration of writing across all content areas.
This includes planning with teachers, modeling and co-teaching in classrooms and working directly with students to support their
growth in writing and author’s craft. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student
progress and performance.
This is a supplemental, federally funded, school-improvement position and will be evaluated annually based on availability of
funding.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the integration of writing across all content areas (ELA, math, science, and social studies)
- Participate in collaborative planning with teachers and academic coaches
- Support instruction by modeling in classrooms, co-teaching, and working with small groups of students
- Use research-based strategies proven to increase proficiency in writing
- Support student growth by working with individual students and small groups in the areas of writing and English Language Arts
- Analyze student writing data to identify trends, set goals, and inform instructional planning
- Curate and share high-quality resources, tools, and materials to support teacher practice
- Work with current academic coaches and school administration to identify specific needs
- Provide ongoing feedback to teachers, instructional team, and administration regarding progress and needs
- Complete other instructional support duties as assigned by administrator

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Educational Level: Bachelor Degree
- Must possess a valid Georgia Teacher’s Certificate
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable
Experience:
- At least three years of experience in elementary and/or secondary K–12 education
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as speaking and presentation skills

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the position, including being able to speak effectively to small
and large groups of people, and to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Must be able to articulate the vision and mission for the district and provide appropriate direction, guidance, and management skills to
achieve them.
- The position requires exercising confidentiality in handling district information.
- Demonstrate skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
- Knowledge of reading and math intervention programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations; must be able to
use email.
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
