Job Summary

 

Skilled mechanical work, performed under general supervision, in the installation, inspection, operation, chemical treatment and maintenance of HVAC water systems including but not limited to all close looped systems, cooling tower systems boiler systems, and chiller systems.  Provides on-site technical service to HVAC mechanics and HVAC foreman.  Performs chemistry test, chemical feed and control equipment maintenance, chemical inventory management, technical recommendations, and written service reports.  This entry level class lies below that of HAR Mechanic. 

 

Essential Functions

 

1. Installs and services chemical feed and water treatment and chemical feed equipment at designated locations.

2. Serves as technical consultant and liaison with HVAC mechanic and HVAC foreman and technical counterparts.

3. Performs water analysis and/or collects samples for preparation, labeling and shipment to designated laboratory for analysis.

4. Works with PLC controls, understands water process treatment design, and repairs pumps, instruments and control panels.

5. Conducts preventative maintenance and calibrates feed pumps, controllers, feed rate charts and maintains log sheets.

6. Maintains inventory of spare parts (lube oil, tubing, and piping), and adequate supply of reagents, sample containers, and shipment containers necessary for routine as well as special sampling and analysis. 

7. Reviews assigned work orders and assembles parts and materials for work to be performed.

8. Maintains contact with dispatcher to receive emergency calls and report on work in progress.

9. Diagnoses system operating conditions.

10. Maintains log books, records of work performed and makes reports as required.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Probation: Six (6) months

 

Qualifications


Open Requirements:
A three (3) year combination of education, training, or experience involving the maintenance of water treatment and chemical systems associated with HVAC systems.

Licensing:  A valid Florida driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.

                                                                                                                            

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures used in chemical feed and control systems
  • Knowledge of techniques, methods, and procedures used in the inspection, operation and maintenance of water treatment and chemical feed equipment associated with HVAC systems
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local rules and regulations relating to operation and maintenance, record keeping, testing, and reporting, as well as treated water disposal
  • Knowledge of the equipment, tools, and materials used in the operation and maintenance of automatic chemical feeders, and associated control systems used in HVAC related systems
  • Knowledge of chemicals used in water treatment
  • Knowledge of proper storage, handling, and use of chemicals used in water treatment
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Strong skills in care and use of tools and equipment used in operation and maintenance of HVAC water treatment systems.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to distinguish small color changes inherent in the Buret Testing Process
  • Ability to diagnose problems and make emergency repairs
  • Ability to use various electrical testing equipment
  • Ability to operate power, mechanical and hand tools
  • Ability to read, understand and apply job-related materials including equipment and safety manuals
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply job-related rules, policies and procedures
  • Ability to prepare reports
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
