HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT

The Director of Family Support Services is focused on maximizing organ donation by providing education, support, and compassionate care to potential donor families. Responsible for overseeing and directing the family support services provided to families of potential organ donors. This includes planning, developing, and implementing strategies and programs to obtain donor authorization and provide emotional support during the donation process. Ensure staff are well-trained and equipped to effectively manage family interactions and support. Your work will have purpose every single day, contributing directly to life-changing outcomes.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Operations: Directs the daily operations of the departments, and effectively performs key management functions, including departmental planning, staffing, staff development and deployment of resources. Ensures that families receive timely and appropriate support, education, and guidance during the donation consent process. Works closely with hospital staff, physicians, and other OPO staff to ensure a smooth and effective donation process. Implements programs, policies, and procedures related to family support, including a smooth transition to Family Support Services. Ensures accurate and complete documentation of all interaction with families. Assesses training needs, partners with Clinical Education to develop training materials, and conducts ongoing training for Family Support Coordinators.
  • People Leadership: Provides oversight to assigned team by supervising, guiding, and directing employees to be effective team members. Ensures that everyone is equipped with the right skills, tools, and talents necessary for executing their duties. Using the established people processes (performance, development, succession, and career) to ensure that their team’s level of performance and capabilities meet current and future standards.
  • Strategic Planning: Develops, implements, and drives strategies to improve family support services and donation outcomes
  • Continuous Process Improvement: Oversees process improvement to donation authorization process to maximize organ donation where applicable and in conjunction with industry standards and federal/state laws. Continuously evaluates Family Support Services programs and oversees process improvement to increase authorization rates. Participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance family support services and donation rates.
  • Data & Reporting: Oversees the collection of data related to family support, approaches, and authorizations to identify areas for improvement.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Social Work, Nursing, Healthcare, Business, Marketing, Education, Public Relations, or Healthcare
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • TEN (10) years – Management experience with direct reports
  • FIVE (5) years – Organ Procurement Organization (OPO), Transplant Center, and/or Healthcare industry experience

 

Preferred Experience/Skills/Certifications:

  • Master’s Degree – Social Work, Nursing, Healthcare, Business, Marketing, Education, Public Relations, or Healthcare
  • Certification – Family Service Coordinator
  • FIFTEEN (15) years – Management experience with direct reports
  • SEVEN (7) years – Organ Procurement Organization, Transplant Center, and/or Healthcare Industry experience

 

 Key Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Organ Donation Process Knowledge: Strong understanding of the organ donation process, brain death, and family dynamics. Understanding of medical and legal principles related to organ donation, donor evaluation, and family support.
  • Communication Skills: Written, verbal, and presentation; ability to engage, inspire, and influence individuals at different levels; frequently sharing information with others while listening to and understanding their points of view; able to build consensus groups
  • Strategic Thinking: Strategic planning and interfacing, especially for complex or critical issues; impact of regulatory changes on internal processes and products; clear comprehensive understanding of the link between function and strategy.
  • Research, Analytical, Critical Thinking, and Problem Resolution Skills: Able to think through and solve problems step-by-step; leads thorough analysis with appropriate attention to detail and the big picture including review of impact at multiple levels of the system; able to look beyond the obvious and dig deeper for the best solution; able to follow somewhat generally defined procedures; problems may be common and at times somewhat complex
  • Decision Making: Makes appropriate decisions regarding the educational needs for each hospital to ensure compliance in the referral of all deaths in a timely manner; decisions are made frequently as strategy and initiatives of each hospital change (e.g., specific education efforts and follow-up).
  • Relationship Management: Able to build and sustain partnerships within company (across departments/functions) as well as outside the organization to achieve common goals and outcomes (ie., internal and external relationships with staff, hospital and community leaders).
  • People Development: Actively engages in talent management practices (selection, promotion, development, and engagement) to cultivate a workforce that is well aligned with current and emerging talent needs.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $115,356 - $153,808*

 

Final compensation will be based on factors such as geographic location, qualifications, and prior relevant experience. The pay range for this position is $115,356 hourly (entry level qualifications to $153,808 hourly (experienced in this role). Actual compensation may be higher based on the successful candidate’s knowledge and relevant experience.
