Position: Permanent/Full Time

About the role

We are seeking a motivated and curious News Reporter to join our newsroom team. The successful candidate will play a key role in generating timely, accurate, and engaging stories across digital and print platforms. This is an entry-level position suited to someone with a passion for journalism, excellent writing skills, and the drive to develop as a professional reporter within a fast-paced national news organisation.

Main Responsibilities

•    Research, pitch, and write news articles on a wide range of topics, including breaking news, local issues, features, and human-interest stories
•    Assist senior reporters and editors with fact-checking, background research, and story development.
•    Conduct interviews (in person, by phone, and via digital platforms) with sources, experts, and members of the public.
•    Monitor social media, press releases, and wire services for story leads.
•    Cover press conferences, events, and other on-the-ground reporting assignments as directed.
•    Ensure all reporting meets the newspaper’s editorial standards of accuracy, fairness, and clarity.
•    Contribute to multimedia content creation (images, audio, video) where appropriate.
•    Work collaboratively with the wider newsroom team to meet tight deadlines.

Person Specification

•    Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tell stories clearly and concisely.
•    A keen interest in current affairs and a broad knowledge of news, politics, and culture.
•    Ability to work under pressure and deliver accurate copy to deadline.
•    Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, in line with the demands of the news cycle.
•    Basic digital journalism skills, including familiarity with content management systems and social media platforms.
