Job Description

30% - Provide support to campus support staff when requested.
20% - Install, upgrade, image, and configure computer hardware and software.
20% - Troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
10% - Maintain accurate hardware inventory.
10% - Provide basic technical support via phone, email, chat, or in person.
5% - Create and update support tickets in ticket management system.
5% - Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  1. Able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
  2. Experience using or managing Windows, Mac and/or Linux operating systems.
  3. Experience troubleshooting computer hardware and software issues.
  4. Experience working in a customer service centric environment.
  5. Good oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials and possible interview.
  6. Valid current driver’s license.
  7. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.

Advertised Salary Range

$15.00 per hour

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Previous professional experience supporting/troubleshooting computer hardware and software.
  2. Experience using or managing Dell computer hardware.
  3. Experience using or managing multi-function devices (print/fax/scan devices.).
  4. Experience using a ticketing system (ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.).
  5. Experience using a configuration management solution (Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager.).
  6. Experience supporting AV technology in a classroom or event environment.
  7. Knowledge of LAN / WAN principles and protocols.
  8. Experience creating technical documentation.
  9. Able to work over academic, holiday, and summer breaks.
  10. Eligible for Federal Work Study.

Position Overview

The Student IT Support Technician position is responsible for working as a part of a team to provide technical support for end users at the Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas. This position must be able to work both nights and weekends during the following days\times:

Monday & Wednesday: 4:30pm – 10:30pm
Saturday: 12pm – 5pm

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

Employment Conditions

(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.

(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
