As anAcoustics Design Engineer with Larson Davis, you will use your engineeringeducation, experience and technical knowledge to design and improve products,examine and develop new instrumentation, work closely within engineering teamsand with other engineers to help provide direction and leadership and supportall phases of product development including specification, implementation,testing and support.


Additional Duties: 

  • Work within an ISO 9001 environment by following procedures and helping improve the ISO 9001 process.
  • Be involved in routinely learning and implementing new technologies, participate in the creation of plans for product development, participate in the product quality assurance process.
  • Design and test preamps, microphones, and other products related to Larson Davis.
  • Design and create filter coefficients using a variety of development tools, environments and languages.
  • Develop internal acoustical testing for instruments.
  • Provide training to team members on related acoustics for projects.
  • Work with other departments to solve product related problems. Test, troubleshoot, and conduct analyses to improve reliability, quality and profit.
  • May perform project tracking, costing and scheduling tasks.
  • Attend seminars, visit customers and write technical documentation in active support of technology.
  • Support mechanical and hardware design. Provide input for instrument additions and replacement.
  • Ensure that team members understand and follow established policies and procedures within the calibration system and adhere to the Employee Guide and Quality Management System.
  • Responsible for implementing and ensuring compliance (or accreditation, if applicable) to quality standards, which are related to the Measurement Standards (MS) and Measurement & Test Equipment (M&TE).  (For example: ISO 17025, ANSI Z-540). Review MS and M&TE out of tolerance occurrences and determine corrective action.
  • Act as a liaison between Engineering and Production departments regarding new products and procedures affecting metrology and calibration by specifying the ME and M&TE to be used for parameters and or product being tested.
  • Approve calibration and certification test procedures and systems. Responsible for determining accuracy and measurement uncertainty of M&TE used in the calibration system, and proactively improving the accuracy of the calibration systems.
  • Work with the Production Manager to determine policies governing access to the testing areas.
  • Function as a resource to other managers regarding their responsibilities related to the Larson Davis Calibration System.
  • Perform other related duties as directed to ensure efficient operation of the Engineering Department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: B.S. degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or similar with a Masters in Acoustics or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of one to three years of experience in acoustics design and testing or related field. Knowledge of metrology standard, and understanding of metrology principles including sound measurements and the calculation of uncertainties in measurements. Ability to work with certifying bodies to maintain industry accreditations.
  • Travel Requirement: As needed, <20% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Acoustics or related.
