About the Department
The Massage Therapy program is regulated by the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy and complies with all of the rules and regulations set forth in NC ADMINISTRATIVE CODE-INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF QUALIFICATIONS.
Position Duties
Essential and other responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
- Teach assigned contact hours per week; prepare objectives, assignments, grading standards, attendance polices and course syllabus to be distributed at first class meeting; prepare, proctor and grade tests; prepare instructional materials and aids.?
- Provide supervisor with objectives and course outlines for each class; begin and end each class on time; turn in final grades and other forms on time; revise course content and objectives as required; administer student evaluations each semester;
- Assist with the activities of the Massage Therapy program; evaluate and ensure that operations meet the goals and objectives of the college and the needs of the student population; monitor program systems and procedures. Coordinate Massage Therapy programs content to ensure adherence to State and National standards.
- Participate in the development and administration of the Massage Therapy program; recommend funds for equipment, materials and supplies; recommend staffing needs; monitor and approve expenditures. Coordinate the selection, purchase, use and maintenance of learning resources, supplies, equipment and facilities assigned to the program.
- Participate in the development of the Massage Therapy; assign work activities, projects and courses; monitor workflow; review attendance records; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
- Interview and instructional personnel in cooperation with supervisor; train, motivate and evaluate instructional personnel; provide staff training; work with faculty to correct deficiencies.
- Help plan, implement, maintain and review instructional schedules, syllabi, special courses; ensure instructional program addresses the needs of the community; initiate new courses, programs and grants.
- Assist the academic program's efforts to recruit and retain students; develop, review and revise of program publications, publicity and other community relations' activities. Participate in the development and delivery of public information efforts; support college functions/cultural activities; assist in the placement of students.
- Provide leadership in the orientation and advisement of Massage Therapy students.
- Oversee the use and maintenance of facilities for Massage Therapy programs; assist and be accessible to program assistants and support staff for necessary administrative duties.
- Conduct inventory of program equipment; assume responsibilities for labs, shops and other facilities designed primarily for the Massage Therapy program.
- Schedule regular office hours for consultation with students and faculty; ensure availability during non-scheduled hours by appointment; work closely with probationary advisees; counsel students in academic and employment planning; keep current on graduation requirements.
Marginal Functions:
- Serve on a variety of committees and study groups; research and develop recommendations related to academic and instructional programs; maintain contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations for the purpose of keeping instructional programs current with occupational or academic field.
- Participate in the development and delivery of public information efforts; support college functions/cultural activities; assist in the placement of students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position description covers the most essential functions and duties associated with this position. The President or appropriate supervisory personnel may assign additional duties. Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
- Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of the programs, policies and operational needs.
- NC Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy policies and procedures.Regulations and guidelines governing Massage Therapy training.
- Principles and techniques of classroom instruction.
- Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
- Distance learning instruction.
- The mission, goals and objective of CCC&TI.
- Advance principles and practices of instructional development and instructional strategies.
- Current trends, research and development in the areas of assignment.
- Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.
Ability to:
- Interpret and apply college and assigned division and departmental goals, objectives, policies, rules, and regulations.
- Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
- Contribute to the development of academic mission, goals and objectives which complement those of the college.

- Interpret and apply federal, state and local policies, laws, and regulations.

- Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students.
Environmental Conditions:
Learning center environment, with exposure to computer screens. The instructor should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office and classroom workspace, and working closely with others.
The instructor must maintain the office and teaching environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical conditions necessary for walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time; general manual dexterity; light lifting and carrying. Physical and marginal functions require the ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following; standing, walking or sitting for extended periods, moderate lifting and carrying, general manual dexterity, operating assigned equipment, and extended exposure to computer screens.
The instructor is required to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously.
Additionally, the instructor must maintain mental capacity, which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and evaluating the effectiveness of programs and personnel.
Scheduling Conditions:
This is a part-time position, with availability of contract hours and scheduling (day/evening/online) dependent on enrollment needs each semester.
Traveling Conditions:
Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed.
Other Qualifications
Training:
High School Diploma or Equivalency Required. An Associate's degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution preferred.
Licensed in Massage and Bodywork Therapy (LMBT) required. Additional licenses in Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Chiropractic or Nursing may be considered.
Experience:
Three years of professional experience working as a licensed massage therapist. Teaching and/or industry training experience.
