1. Education: High school education or equivalent required, must write clearly and legibly.
2. Training and Experience: Previous experience in typing or computer skills is helpful but not required. Previous experience as a ward assistant, nursing assistant or in other patient related position desirable but not required.
3. Job Knowledge: Exhibits ability to set priorities, organize work load, and efficiently utilize supplies and equipment. Able to identify basic dysrhythmias. Successfully completes basic dysrhythmia course. Passes basic dysrhythmia test, given at UNITY HEALTH, with a score of at least 80%.

DESCRIPTION:
1. Continuously observes the central cardiac monitoring station, recognizing and documenting changes in cardiac rhythms and reporting major changes to nursing staff. Maintains safe alarm limits at all times on all monitors.
2. Performs nonclinical nursing tasks for the Critical Care Unit. Acts as unit receptionist, demonstrating tact and discretion, protecting the confidentiality of patient information at all times. Efficiently utilizes the supplies and equipment in the unit. Maintains telemetry and unit log books. Assures proper charging of unit equipment/supplies, when these items are used outside of the CCU. Sets priorities and organizes the work load on unit to facilitate the timely and effective delivery of patient services.
3. Performs duties for direct patient care, which includes but is not limited to, assisting the patient with immediate needs and observing the patient’s status as directed by the nursing staff.
4. Performs indirect patient care, which includes, but is not limited to, cleaning unit, patient areas and maintaining an environment which is neat and free of hazards. An understanding of and willingness to follow infection control and safety guidelines is mandatory.
5. Performs clinical support responsibilities in which training and competence has been documented.
6. Cross trains as a Health Unit Coordinator as needed.
7. Maintains good physical and emotional well being. Job responsibilities require long periods of sitting. Walking; bending; pushing of carts, wheelchairs and other equipment; and lifting of up to 50 pounds is also required.
