Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is the state’s largest hunger relief organization and one of the leading food banks in the Feeding America Network. In additional to vital hunger relief programs in our 21-county service area, we also operate Fresh Connect Central, a regional produce cooperative for Feeding America, serve as a contract reclamation site for Kroger Central Division, and are a staging site for FEMA disaster response.
Position Purpose of Maintenance Technician: Technician will apply highly developed troubleshooting, mechanical and electrical skills, and sound knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic control systems to maintain and repair equipment. They will help aid in keeping down time on production lines to a minimum through a variety of actions including but not limited to PM’s, stocking relevant parts in house, and helping with equipment training. They will work closely with the Production Supervisor to maximize production output and maintain a high level of safety. Additional tasks include helping the facilities maintenance team during downtime. All responsibilities and duties will further Gleaners’ mission to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Essential Functions of Maintenance Technician:
- Troubleshoot, repair, assemble, install, and integrate machinery requiring a high level of technical skill/knowledge and independent problem-solving skills. Ensure all established inspection, testing, quality, and operating specifications are met. Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment. Work with staff on scheduling down time on the lines.
- Read diagrams, schematic drawings, engineering specifications and service manuals to determine work procedures.
- Share information with team members, and your supervisor to help prioritize tasks and inform corrective actions and equipment status.
- Participate as necessary in new projects to install or improve the safety and performance of existing and new equipment.
- Order parts as necessary and keep track of parts inventory. Work with team on identifying what parts and quantities to keep on hand.
- Help source new vendors for parts that are cost effective.
- Minimize downtime due to equipment failure through a variety of actions by identifying root cases and working to find options on how to prevent them or fix them in a timely manner.
- Create standard operating procedures for machinery.
- Create and maintain a maintenance schedule for all equipment.
- Create and keep track of safety checklists for all equipment.
- Guide and assist the team in proper use and care of all equipment. Help with training of new employees on proper use of equipment.
- Work safely and accurately with minimal supervision.
- Assist the facilities maintenance team during downtime when not working on equipment.
- Change tasks and assignments as the needs of our operations.
- Ensure compliance and adherence to all food safety guidelines according to GFB, Feeding America, AIB, USDA, ISDH and any other applicable processes or regulations for safe and sanitary production and storage of all products.
- Operate equipment according to Gleaners and OSHA guidelines.
- Active participant of HACCP team to ensure food safety of the process and product.
- All other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience of Maintenance Technician:
- Associate degree or equivalent in experience or other certifications.
- Electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and machine shop experience preferred.
- Knowledge and experience in food production or manufacturing preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities of Maintenance Technician:
- Mechanical aptitude needed.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to read, write and to understand instructions
- Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with all staff members, agencies, volunteers, and donors
- Ability to perform basic math functions, (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
- Ability to count accurately and maintain accurate records
