POSITION OF: EO II (Sewers)

SCHEDULE: Full-time Second Shift (2:30pm-11:00pm)

SALARY: $26.31 + Shift Differential

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position requires experience with the operation and maintenance of underground utilities to perform repairs, replacement, and rehabilitation via excavation work, pipe inspection and cleaning using specialized in-pipe equipment, and preventive maintenance to maintain the sanitary and storm sewer facilities owned by the City of Reading.


Work hours: 2:30pm - 11:00pm


Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for performing all aspects related to excavation, inspection, & repair work pertaining to the City’s sanitary and storm sewer systems, including using any hand or power tools and operating heavy equipment necessary to complete the job. 
  • Must be able to operate a combination sewer mobile line cleaning equipment such as vac/jetter truck independently
  • Must be able to operate the in-pipe televisual inspection equipment hardware and software using industry-standard criteria and provide printed and/or electronic reports to supervision
  • Responsible for providing accurate daily work performance reports used for PA DEP reporting to supervision
  • Other duties as may be assigned


 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements/Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Class B CDL PA driver’s license with air brakes/tanker endorsement is required.
  • PA DEP Class E Collection System certification (E-4) is required within two years of transfer/hire.
  • Employees who acquire PA DEP Class E Collection System certification receive $0.50 per hour increase.
  • NASSCO PACP certification is preferred.  
  • Employees who acquire NASSCO PACP certification receive a $1.00 per hour increase.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience with underground utility excavation work, including deep excavations, with other utilities in proximity is required.
  • Prior experience with the operation of appropriate mobile heavy equipment including dump truck, backhoe, front end loader, and tanker truck is required.
  • A background with CCTV inspection work is preferred.
  • Previous combination vac/jetter truck experience is preferred.
  • Confined Space entry and trenching & shoring background is preferred. Prior experience with hand and powered hand tools including jack hammers, lasers, cutoff saw, chainsaw, drain cleaning equipment, and pipe cutters is preferred.
