JOB SUMMARY
Installs, modifies, fabricates, repairs, and maintains a broad range of electrical and/or heavy mechanical equipment and systems for one or more highly advanced electrical/mechanical assignment locations for utilities, public works, and other agencies or departments.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installs, maintains, modifies and repairs a variety of heavy mechanical machinery, equipment, and systems used in wastewater treatment plants or water treatment and distribution systems
  • Overhauls well pumping and lift station equipment through removal, repair, and replacement of pipes, pumps, and motors
  • Performs inspections and operational efficiency checks, conducting preventive maintenance service on the electrical and mechanical components of a variety of pumps and supportive equipment, machinery, facilities, security, and conveyor/transport systems
  • Detects causes of electrical failures, interprets and ensures compliance with established codes, calculates data necessary for wiring instrument systems, and requisitions supplies and materials needed to complete task
  • Disconnects, repairs, and reconnects, and/or replaces electric motors and may install electric wiring, conduit, and circuitry and repair switch gear equipment
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs chlorination systems, chemical feed pumps, and metering equipment
  • Replaces or repairs electronics in panels
  • Repairs and adjusts mechanical systems for vehicular equipment, hydraulic pump systems, and high-pressure line cleaning pumps and performs structural repairs on large cranes, pressure trucks, and backhoes
  • Repairs and adjusts mechanical and hydraulic systems on passenger loading bridges, baggage belt systems
  • Installs and reroutes pipes at wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations, or water production and distribution stations
  • Performs fabrication and welding to make required repairs or enhancements
  • Maintains records of services and maintenance
  • Maintains cleanliness of plant and workstations
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned


      KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

      • Ability to weld, fit pipe, refurbish equipment, set and align rotating equipment
      • Ability to wire and unwire motors and perform zero energy check with a multi meter
      • Ability to recognize operational inconsistencies and hazards in the workplace and display proper judgment in responding to them
      • Ability to operate powered equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner while on ground surface as well as at heights
      • Thorough knowledge and understanding of plant fire protection apparatus and systems and ability to operate all fire protection equipment
      • Able to work varying shifts, overtime, holidays, on call duty and emergency call-ins
      • Communication skills – verbal and written
      • Ability to operate a computer


      EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES

      • Minimum HS Diploma or equivalent (GED)
      • 2 plus years’ electrical and mechanical experience

      • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and out.
      • The worker is subjected to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than hour.
      • The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
      • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to bio-solids.
      • The worker is subject atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
      • The worker is subject to vibration: Exposure to oscillating movements of extremities or whole body.
        The workers frequently is in close quarters, crawl space, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
