Position Responsibilities

 

·         Assesses potential for compromised skin integrity, nutritional deficiencies, functional deficiencies, pain management history and changes in elimination patterns within the patient making environmental changes or referrals as necessary.

·         Modifies the interview techniques to adequately assess patients by identifying the physical, psychosocial and educational needs common to the age group.

·         Completes physical assessment including discharge planning and care plan within departmental guidelines/times frames. Assesses patient readiness to learn and provides ongoing patient education, documenting all interventions and outcomes using approved hospital forms. Involves patient/family in developing plan of care and accomplishing outcome goals. Consistently and actively participates with interdisciplinary team.

·         Prepares the pre-op holding area/PACU appropriately to receive a new admission/transfer, greeting the patient and family upon arrival and placing the appropriate monitoring equipment, applicable to specialty area and/or patient condition.

·         Evaluates, assesses and documents patient’s hemodynamic response to therapeutic intervention by accurate cardiovascular monitoring.

·         Evaluates, assesses and documents patient’s cardio-respiratory status including O2 saturation, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Reports abnormal rhythm to physicians.

·         Competent in section, care of and discontinuation of catheters, tubes and/or drains (or assisting with the insertion).

·         Administers medication per physicians’ orders with zero errors, respecting patients’ rights and performing assessment, reassessment, assessing effectiveness and documentation according to hospital policy.

·         Responds to code blue in department, and initiates CPR. Demonstrates calm, professional manners during a crisis or emergency situation at all times within the patient care environment.

·         Initiates and maintains intravenous therapy as per hospital policy and infection control guidelines. Safety administers blood and blood products.

·         Adheres to and complies with all regulatory standards globally to profession and specific to unit, consistent with their scope of practice.

·         Performs initial vital signs and admission history, initiates plan of care, establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs. Notification to physician within 15 minutes of arrival to procedure area.

·         Verbalizes understanding of patient diagnosis and plan of care.

·         Performs 24-hour chart check at the beginning of each procedure.

·         Performs preoperative and post operative care and instruction for each assigned surgical patient during shift.

·         Performs ostomy care to include irrigation, appliance usage and reinforcement of teaching.

·         Plans, presents and documents unit in-service as required.

·         Aggregates and analyzes PI and RISK initiatives.

·         Assists Director with scheduling and assures accuracy of daily schedule sheets.

·         Ensures problem resolution for any issues.

·         Conducts staff meetings in collaboration with unit director.

·         Fosters teamwork and builds mutual understanding, respect and confidence among personnel and between departments.

·         Is responsible for providing leadership and direction for staffing in accordance with the organization goals and objectives and meets changing needs in the area(s) of responsibility.

·         Collects and interprets data to monitor the department’s performance and improve processes; and when applicable evaluates the outcomes related to the use of clinical practices guidelines.

·         All other duties assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

·         Active FL RN License

·         BLS Required

·         ACLS Required

·         CPAN preferred

·         Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred

·         Min. 3 years of experience in PreOp/PACU
