Job Summary

Battelle’s National Security Business Unit is seeking a talented Computer/Software Engineer to join the Geiger Mode Lidar team at the Geospatial Research Laboratory (GRL). This position supports advanced research and development activities for the Army Geospatial Center and ERDC, focusing on innovative lidar technologies and their integration into operational systems. The role is full-time and on-site at GRL, Ft. Belvoir, VA. The Geospatial Research Laboratory (GRL) conducts advanced geospatial research, development, testing, and evaluation of current and emerging technologies to characterize and measure phenomena within both physical (terrain) and social (cultural) environments encountered by the U.S. Army. Research supports the Army Geospatial Enterprise and the development of geospatially enabled technologies for Joint, other Services, and Functional Combatant Command (COCOM) programs, with additional applications in military engineering, DoD installation management, and USACE projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain software for lidar data processing and system integration.
  • Program in both Windows and Linux environments, supporting cross-platform solutions.
  • Implement and document algorithms using low-level languages (C, C++, Rust; assembly and high-performance computing experience is a plus).
  • Develop and maintain Python codebases; experience with Flask is a plus.
  • Design and implement embedded systems solutions (microcontrollers; FPGA experience is a plus).
  • Interface with laboratory measurement equipment and support hardware/software integration.
  • Develop multithreaded and parallel processing applications (SIMD, MIMD; experience with OpenMP, CUDA, and/or OpenCL is a plus).
  • Apply Object Oriented Programming principles to software design and development.
  • Document and communicate algorithms and code using UML diagrams and software Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Design and develop user interfaces (UI) and graphical user interfaces (GUI).
  • Support networking and network programming tasks (experience with REST APIs or WebSocket is a plus).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, reliable software solutions.

Key Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Science or Engineering, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficient in programming in both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Significant experience and proficiency in low-level languages (C, C++, Rust; assembly and high-performance computing experience is a plus).
  • Experience with Python; experience with Flask is a plus.
  • Experience with embedded systems (microcontrollers; FPGA and laboratory measurement equipment experience is a plus).
  • Experience with multithreaded/parallel programming (SIMD, MIMD; OpenMP, CUDA, and/or OpenCL experience is a plus).
  • Proficient in Object Oriented Programming.
  • Experience documenting and communicating algorithms/code through UML diagrams and software ICDs.
  • Experience developing UI and GUI.

  • Existing or eligible to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
