WSP is seeking a Managing Director, Project Development to join our Advisory and Planning department.

The Project Development team’s services provide strategic guidance and technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle. This includes advising on the best practices, methodologies, and processes to achieve project goals - ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, including civil rights regulations and developing and maintaining governance frameworks to manage risks and facilitate accountable decision-making. The Project Development team is composed of experienced professionals with diverse backgrounds and unique knowledge in alternative delivery methods across varying market sectors.
Your Impact
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Managing Director to lead our team of management consultants specializing in due diligence, procurement strategy, energy and social infrastructure alternative delivery, water alternative delivery, third party and project governance, civil rights advisory, and demand modeling and forecasting. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the delivery of high-quality consulting services, driving strategic initiatives, ensuring client satisfaction and meeting key performance indicators for the profit and loss (P&L) unit.
Leadership and Team Management: The Director must have strong leadership and team management skills to guide and support a diverse team of consultants. This includes fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment, providing professional development opportunities, and ensuring that the team is motivated and aligned with the organization's goals. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are also crucial for building trust and maintaining strong relationships within the team.
Driving Growth: The ability to develop and implement strategic plans is essential for the Director. This involves aligning the consulting practice with organizational goals, identifying new business opportunities, and staying abreast of industry trends. The Director must be a strategic thinker who can manage the financials of the business, make informed decisions, manage risks, and ensure that projects are executed effectively and meet client expectations.
Technical Expertise and Industry Knowledge: The Director needs to have a deep understanding of the various areas the team specializes in, including due diligence, procurement strategy, alternative delivery methods, energy and social infrastructure, water projects, civil rights, governance, and demand modeling and forecasting. This technical expertise allows the Director to provide strategic guidance, ensure compliance with regulations, and deliver high-quality consulting services that meet client needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management: Lead and manage a diverse team of consultants, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Client Engagement: Lead by example by bringing, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor and partner throughout the project development lifecycle. Ensure that clients' needs are met and their expectations are exceeded.
Project Oversight: Oversee the implementation of consulting projects across various domains, ensuring that projects are executed effectively and meet client expectations. Monitor project progress, address issues, and ensure adherence to best practices.
Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for the consulting practice, aligning with organizational goals and market conditions. Identify new business opportunities and stay abreast of industry trends.
Innovation and Improvement: Drive continuous improvement and innovation within the team. Leverage specialized knowledge and an outside perspective to solve complex problems and enhance the team's capabilities.
P&L Management: Manage the Profit and Loss (P&L) for the consulting practice, ensuring financial targets are met. This includes budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to ensure the practice's profitability and sustainability.
The Consulting Services the Project Development Team Provides:
Due Diligence: Conduct investor advisory due diligence, independent engineering reviews, and performance reviews to ensure project success. Ensure that due diligence processes are thorough and objective.
Procurement Strategy: Advise on procurement processes to select the right team for alternative delivery projects. Ensure that the procurement strategy aligns with the project's goals and requirements.
Third Party and Project Governance: Develop and maintain formal governance frameworks to align partners, facilitate accountable decision-making, and actively manage risks. Ensure that governance practices are robust and effective.
Energy and Social Infrastructure Alternative Delivery: Provide expertise in the delivery of energy and social infrastructure projects using alternative methods. Advise on project planning, execution, and management to ensure successful outcomes.
Water Alternative Delivery: Oversee the delivery of water projects using alternative methods, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently and meet client expectations. Provide technical guidance and strategic advice throughout the project lifecycle.
Civil Rights Services: Ensure that all projects comply with civil rights regulations and standards. Provide guidance on civil rights issues, conduct compliance reviews, and ensure that projects promote equity and inclusion.
Demand Modeling and Forecasting: Oversee the development of demand models and forecasts to support project planning and decision-making. Analyze market trends and data to provide accurate and reliable forecasts.
Who You Are
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Urban or Transportation Planning, Data Sciences, Environmental Studies, Liberal Arts, Public Policy, Operations Research, Engineering, or closely related discipline.
Graduate degree in relevant field (J.D., M.B.A., Ph. D)
Advanced proficiency and proven experience in the areas of due diligence, procurement strategy, alternative delivery methods, and/or civil rights.
15+ years of relevant post education experience in discipline, and in a leadership, management consulting, or client advisory capacity.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement effective plans.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory and/or management experience on major infrastructure projects
Knowledge and application of P3 and other alternative project delivery methods

Expected Salary (all locations): $290,100-$325,350
