About the Department
The Health Educator I position is primarily responsible for coordinating Brunswick County’s substance use prevention and recovery efforts by facilitating, planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based strategies of the NC Opioid Settlement MOA; staffing the Brunswick County Substance Use and Addiction Commission; and performing additional related Substance Use programming. This position will assist the Brunswick County Substance Use and Addiction Commission with data requests and specific projects. In this role, you will lead regular meetings with stakeholders to share strategies and report progress on substance use and addiction prevention and recovery. The Health Educator I will proactively seek new ideas and partnerships while implementing outreach and education efforts that reach and engage people with Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) or any co-occurring substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health condition. This position will also assist with other Health Promotion work as needed.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong collaboration skills with County and Municipal partners, hospitals, staff, and community-based organizations. The ability to work effectively with a diverse population is also essential for this role.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public health plus one (1) to two (2) years of experience with some training and experience in the administration of programs; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Preferred: Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health treatment principles; local, state, and federal substance abuse and mental health programs as they relate to county operations.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of office equipment. Must be able to exert 10 to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
