PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Support transportation operations by safely driving students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Director of Transportation. Maintain department vehicles by checking fluid levels, cleansing, and fueling.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED - preferred but not required
Valid Commercial Driver's License-Class A or B with P&S Endorsement
Successful completion of behind-the-wheel training.
Successful completion of 20 hr. Texas Department of Public Safety Certification Course.
Must pass an annual DOT physical examination by an appropriate health professional designated by the district.
First Aid and CPR Certification
CPI Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to operate all types of buses in the SISD Fleet safely and effectively. (With and without air conditioner and automatic or push handle doors)
ability to maintain an acceptable driving record
Be able to maintain the confidentiality of all records
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form with all levels of management, both internal and external.
Capable of assessing situations in emergencies quickly and reacting with necessary measures for the protection and well-being of the passengers
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
Ability to effectively communicate with parents and school personnel
Ability to manage students in a safe and appropriate manner
Ability to adjust to different assignments daily
Ability to adjust to a different student population daily
Experience:
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Drive all bus routes in Splendora ISD
Drive without assistance following a route description and communicate changes to the appropriate staff
Abide by the list provided in the route sub book of students who are allowed to exit the bus without a parent/guardian at the bus stop, and proceed with department safety procedures regarding those who are not allowed to exit
Perform all school bus aide responsibilities
Perform and document a pre-trip and post-trip inspection on every vehicle driven according to approved Splendora ISD and National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration guidelines, and report all defects i writing to the shop immediately
Exercise caution and safety while driving, following all traffic laws and safety guidelines for school buses
Ensure student safety while loading and unloading students
Maintain student discipline to ensure the safety of students being transported, address student discipline issues using approved techniques, and communicate with school personnel regarding student behavior on the bus
Report and complete all required documentation for vehicle collisions, vehicle damage, and student injuries
Keep the assigned bus clean
Documenting and reporting inappropriate and unacceptable behavior
Maintaining and updating student records on a timely basis
Recognize evidence of abuse and neglect
Maintain confidentiality in all matters concerning student transportation for Splendora ISD
To cooperate with supervisory staff
Attend safety meetings and other trainings as necessary
Be able to evacuate the bus from any emergency exit safely and in a timely manner
Fuel vehicles that need fuel for the day or a trip
Check and fill fluids on vehicles that are scheduled for fluids
Check pre- and post-trip information sheets for drivers needing spray bottles, trash bags, and a box of rags
Wash outside of vehicles
Clean the inside of vehicles by wiping down, vacuuming, and sweeping
Keep the washbay clean at all times
Keep the fuel island clean at all times
Report to work in accordance with the assigned work schedule

Tools/Equipment Used: School buses, fuel dispensing system, emergency equipment (triangle reflectors, fire extinguisher, bodily fluids kit, etc), two-way radio, wheelchair lift, securements, cleaning equipment (sanitizer, washcloths, towels, broom, mop, etc.)
Posture: Frequent standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking; frequent climbing, grasping/squeezing, wrist reflexes/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work inside and outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration and electrical hazards; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; occasional districtwide and statewide travel
