TITLE: CROSSING GUARD (Student-Worker)
REPORTS TO: Principal
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, part-time
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Ensure the safe passage of students, parents, and community members across designated intersections
before and after school. Maintain a visible presence to promote safety, compliance with traffic laws, and positive community relations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist students and families in safely crossing streets at assigned intersections.
Stop traffic as needed using a handheld stop sign and/or hand signals.
Observe and enforce safety procedures consistent with district policy and local traffic laws.
Maintain a courteous, professional, and visible presence to ensure safety and order.
Report unsafe driver behavior, hazards, or concerns to appropriate school personnel or law enforcement as needed.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, and community members to promote safe crossing practices.
Wear required safety equipment (reflective vest, stop sign, whistle, etc.) at all times while on duty.
Follow the assigned schedule and report promptly for duty before and after school.
Maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a role model for students by demonstrating responsible behavior, ethical principles, and respect for laws and regulations.
Maintain appropriate personal appearance as outlined in district policies.
Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
Marysville student in good standing or a Marysville graduate enrolled in a Post-Secondary school
Must be age 16 or older.
Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License.
Must have an approved work permit.
Must complete a ScreenPointe.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Physical ability to stand outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Alternative qualifications as determined appropriate by the Superintendent and/or Board of Education.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of basic traffic and pedestrian safety rules.
Ability to work effectively with children and adults.
Ability to exercise sound judgment when supervising traffic and pedestrians.
Reliability, punctuality, and commitment to student safety.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Regular requirement to stand, walk, and signal traffic in outdoor environments.
Exposure to varying weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold).
Frequent requirement to remain alert and vigilant to ensure student safety.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of Employment: One Year Limited Contract (seasonal, during the school year).
Salary: MEVSD Student Worker Rate
