ABOUT THE ROLE…

The Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for meeting Federal, State and other regulatory obligations and ensuring that company is in full compliance with pertinent and necessary rules, orders and laws as it pertains to tobacco products. This role manages complex reporting, certification, and audit processes related to the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA), Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), U.S. Customs, FDA, and state governments. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of FDA regulated activities and rules regarding tobacco and combustible products, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to navigate multi-agency requirements.

 

WHAT WILL YOU BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?

Manage and prepare all required reporting for Master Settlement Agreement (MSA), Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT), U.S. Customs, FDA, and any other federal, state, and local reports as required by law.
Monitor tax and law changes and develop Company response to such changes, perform research on tax regulations and develop Company response.
Manage annual PwC data submissions and audits.
Prepare and submit monthly Importers Reports and destruction claims via IPAL.
Maintain all federal, state, and local licenses and permits in accordance with regulations.
Act as subject matter expert for relevant tax determination and compliance system
Take lead on all federal and state compliance audits ensuring and ensuring management is given periodic status updates as necessary.
Ability to explain and justify recommendations to all levels of the organization.
Ability to construct logical arguments to support tax positions.
Other tasks and special projects assigned by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field (MBA is preferred)
Minimum of 5 years in a regulatory compliance role, preferably in the tobacco industry or another highly regulated industry.
Strong understanding of federal and state tobacco regulations, including MSA, TTB, FDA, and Customs.
An understanding and ability to scrutinize complex transactions, reports, and activities thoroughly that are crucial for the collection, remittance, and reporting of taxes and fees to the relevant authorities.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and third-party tax service engines.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
