About Us

Sasha Bruce Youthwork (SBY) is the leading provider of homeless youth services in the DC region. For more than 50 years, SBY has provided safe homes, life skills, and workforce development for vulnerable youth. Our programs reach over 5,000 runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth and their families annually.

Position Summary

The Education & Employment Specialist supports young people (ages 18–24) at SBY 8th St Drop-In Center by providing job readiness and education services. Reporting to the Program Director, this position helps youth develop employment goals, build resumes and interview skills, and connect to education and training, with the ultimate goal of increasing income and long-term stability. Additionally, the Drop In Center is open until 7 PM at night and at least one weekend a month. Availability for occasional evenings and weekends is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Conduct work readiness and educational assessments; develop individualized employment and education plans;

· Assist youth with job search, resume writing, cover letters, interview preparation, and offer negotiation;

· Facilitate workshops on employment and education topics (e.g., resume building, networking, workplace expectations, study skills);

· Connect or reconnect youth to high school, GED programs, college, job certification, and vocational training programs;

· Build partnerships with local employers, staffing agencies, training providers, and education programs;

· Provide post-employment and post-enrollment support, problem-solving, and coaching

· Provide referrals for additional services (e.g., mental health, legal, financial literacy)

· Participate in team meetings, consultation with clinicians, case managers, and other staff;

· Complete timely and accurate documentation of services in client case records;

· Participate in staff training, community outreach, and events, ensuring required trainings are completed annually;

· Provide crisis intervention and on-site counseling as needed;

· Work occasional evenings or weekends as needed;

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, business, or related field, OR at least three years of relevant experience;

· Individuals with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply;

· Familiarity with local employment, education, and social services resources preferred;

· Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills;

· Commitment to trauma-informed care, racial equity, and inclusion;

· Reliable transportation and ability to pass background checks;
