Title: School Van Drivers (Full Time/Part Time(s))

Appointment: School Year 2025-2026

Reports to: Director of Transportation

Position Summary:

The school van driver will be responsible for providing transportation support to assist faculty, staff, and students in achieving goals through shuttling between our two campuses, field trips, and athletic activities. The  position is a split shift working a minimum of 4-5 hours a day. Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required.


Additional duties and responsibilities include:

  • Operate the assigned vehicle safely and legally, following all motor vehicle laws and school transportation policies.
  • Maintain open communication with the transportation director regarding route changes, student updates, safety concerns, mechanical issues, or delays.
  • Drive a passenger van along designated routes and schedules, using a communication device to stay in contact with the transportation office.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and ensure proper use of safety equipment such as seat belts, car seats, and securement devices.
  • Keep accurate records of routes, mileage, student passengers, and update route sheets regularly.
  • Provide basic first aid when needed and be prepared to assist students with medical or health considerations.
  • Only transport authorized students and ensure they are picked up and dropped off at approved stops.
  • Keep the van clean inside and out, including windows, and promote the proper care and use of school property.
  • Attend required transportation meetings, participate in emergency dismissals, and be available for school trips or field events as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times, promoting a respectful and safe environment for students and staff.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED certificate required. Candidates should possess the following:


  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • Clean driving record
  • Laurel can train/van certify if qualified
  • Maintain the Van Driver Certification form issued by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce
  • Detail oriented and punctual
  • Knowledge of the local area in order to provide best routes of transportation
  • Must pass BCI/FBI background check
  • Must pass physical (T8)
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly



Salary: Starting at $22 per hour. Comprehensive benefits package for a full time employee available.
