Scope of Responsibilities:

Basic to comprehensive understanding of all treatment processes including: PC Interface, Preliminary Treatment, Primary Clarification, Solids Thickening, Activated Sludge, Digestion Process, Solids Dewatering, Chlorination, UV Disinfection, Recycled Water, Electric Generation, Secondary Clarification, and PC Interface. 


Position Duties

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operates the plant in an effective manner to maintain permit compliance - including possible night shift operation of the Adams Field and Fourche Creek facilities with only one person on shift.
  • Identifies, reports, and corrects hazards, and adheres to safety procedures in order to contribute to a safe work environment. 
  • Monitors, adjusts, and maintains biological wastewater treatment processes.
  • Analyzes, determines, and applies mathematical calculations to plant processes to effectively operate advanced treatment, chlorination, solids handling, and electrical generation processes. 
  • Collects, preserves, and stores plant process samples. 
  • Initiates, completes, and submits all job-related documentation to provide communication with supervisor and peers to ensure that accurate records are maintained. 
  • May perform supervisory responsibilities in plant operations/maintenance/training. 
  • Follows safety practices and guidelines at all times. 
  • Undertakes any reasonable request within capabilities that is for the good of the community and the Utility.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience & Training

For Operator – Grade 9

  • Ability to obtain an Apprentice Arkansas Wastewater Treatment Operator license upon employment with LRWRA.
  • Obtain, possess, and maintain a Class I Arkansas Wastewater Treatment Operator License within six months of employment with LRWRA.

      PREFERRED: 

  • One year experience in the wastewater or related field.
  • Possess an Arkansas Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License in good standing.

For Operator I – Grade 10

  • One-year supervisory experience.
  • Possess and maintain Class III Arkansas Wastewater Treatment Operators License.
  • Completion of Adam, Fourche or Little Maumelle Step-By-Step (SBS) Guides within two years of hire.
  • Completion of Adams, Fourche, or Little Maumelle Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within two years of hire.
  • Completion of all evaluation training criteria for Operator I and Operator within two years of hire.

For Senior Operator – Grade 12

  • Two years supervisory experience.
  • Possess and maintain Class IV Arkansas Wastewater Treatment Operators License.
  • Completion of Adams, Fourche, and Little Maumelle plant Step-By-Step (SBS) Guides and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within two years of hire.
  • Must have spent two consecutive months at other plant within the preceding 24 months.
  • Completion of all evaluation training criteria for Operator I and Operator within two years of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Skill in mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to maintain records and required documentation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Arkansas Wastewater Treatment Operators License.
  • Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, septic water, fumes and chemicals, excessive noise, high voltage equipment, poisonous snakes, and spiders. 
  • Ability to work varying shifts and overtime (including holidays and weekends).
  • Ability to use computer-based software applications to maintain plant records, system monitoring and software, etc. 
  • Ability to perform physical tasks as required to operate and monitor plant equipment, take samples, and perform housekeeping duties.
  • Valid Arkansas driver’s license.
  • Ability to maintain telephone or pager for emergency contact and/or call-in.
  • Ability to coordinate scheduled projects successfully (Senior Operator).
  • Ability to mentor the Operator in Training, Operator and Operator I positions.

This position has been evaluated as to whether a momentary lapse of attention may result in grave and immediate danger to the employee, coworkers, or the public.   If the designation is yes, the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act (AMMA) of 2016 will govern working conditions.  If no, the AMMA will not apply to the position.

This position has been evaluated as to the mandated wearing of a company uniform during working hours.
